Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

United Airlines?

Anyone got any experience on taking ski kit on United? Current baggage policy looks like you can substitute ski bag for your "free" checked bag Transatlantic but says equipment only in the bag. I can't recall if every carrier says this but practically doesn't care if there are some clothes in as well.

Also anyone have an opinion if United cattle class is a total avoid vs BA/Virgin as they are coming in significantly cheaper for what I'm looking at?

Is it United or Continental or United Continental you will be flying with? Twisted Evil

I have flown Continental a number of times with my ski kit. I've always gone to Canada both via the US and direct with an internal transfer. I've never had an issue with my skis. They used to be great as you could actually check in two bags for free but after they joined the star aliance that changed and its one checked in bag and a $30 fee for the next bag. Before now I have put two sets of skis and clothes in and they haven't kicked off so long as it is below 30kg (or it may be 25kg but I can't remember however they have never weighed it or commented).

I've had two experiences with BA both long haul (over 10hr flights) but never with skis however I wasn't impressed with them or the service. Never flown Virgin. I've never had an issue with Continental and it is what it is. Plus the rewards scheme is quite good.... Laughing

Those aren't clothing. They're padding to protect the bindings. Wink

Also, look closely about the definition of ski equipment. Some airlines define it as 1 long bag for skis and 1 small bag for boots. I usually put small items such as socks inside the boots to "protect" it too. wink

Seats are not very comfortable on United prefer Virgin.
