Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Flaine Apartments

Poster: A snowHead
We are planning our next trip to Flaine and wondered if anyone had any views on the Belier and L'Arche which are located at either at either end of the resort at Foret level.

Belier appeals due to its location close to the slopes and therefore very little walking with equipment although L'Arche could well be quiter at the far end. Any comments or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lee neither are that far from the slopes, personally I'd go for which looks the most comfortable and cheapest as there's not much to split them in terms of Location.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I agree with Marcellus - not a lot to chose between the two
L'Arche will be quieter at night but you may have the noise of traffic & the snow plough in the morning (it's right next to the kiosk/ barrier which keeps the traffic in Foret under control).
Access wise, you can get the ski bus (it stops right outside) to get to the nursery slopes else it's only a short walk (less than 50m) to the Gerats lift (although the opening time means it's tight to get to ski school on time)
Belier is closer to the nursery slopes & lifts but is closer to the night life (if that's what you could call it in Flaine)

We stayed in Les Terrasses de Veret last year which was reallg handy for the slopes. I have never liked the idea of a long walk to the slopes or having to take a bus every morning or eve.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

LDM, If you don't want a trek to the slopes why not look at Flaine Montsoleil? It is ski in ski out, from the back of the block the slope leads to the bottom of the Gerats chair and to get back you return to the bottom of the Gerats chair via the Tourmaline piste and from there you ski back to the ski locker. It's not so handy for shops, bars etc but there is a free courtesy bus (not the public navette service) available from (I think) mid afternoon until about midnight that will take you to Foret, Forum or up to the Hameau so you get accessability without the noise.

Thanks Chris it is something I will look into.

I do like the original resort so would like to stay in Foret or maybe Forum - yes I even like the Architecture. rolling eyes

I own an appartment in L'arche (not pimping, it is not for rent) and have never heard any traffic noise or barrier disturbance.
So long as it is South or South West Facing you have the whole building between you and the cars, you won't hear a thing.

L@arche appartments are about 20 years old, so by Flaine standards almost new. Decor should be good, some of the old blocks are really grim.
Montsoleil are new and shiny, but their South facings have the road in front of them so you will have some traffic noise.

No idea about the other one you mentioned.

Likewise across the road in Doris.
Don't hear any traffic but the snow plough / front loader can be a pain early in the morning
Right mix of closeness to the shops, slopes, lifts, parking, even the ski bus for us
