Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

City of Moscow buys Bulgarian ski hotel

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Russia's capital city is to buy a foreign ski hotel. The city of Moscow will purchase the 120-bed Persenk Hotel in Pamporovo, the booming Bulgarian ski resort. A spokesman for the district city of Smolyan declined to reveal the price.

This report from Bulgarian New Network.

Now, would anyone care to guess why a city authority would buy a ski hotel? (I'll try to find the answer!)

Local Authorities are so "small beer". A certain chairman (footy not party) that springs to mind would just have bought the resort. snowHead

In France it's fairly common (I think) for local authorities from areas where there's no skiing to buy cheap hotels/accomodation in ski resorts for use by either: (a) people who couldn't otherwise afford a skiing holiday; (b) council members on a jolly.

The city of Nice used to owned a place in our area (which, strangely, was sold to some Russians but has since been sold on) and Grasse owns a property there.

Following on from Ben's point, one thing that's creditable about this story is that it's reportable ... thanks to a more open media in Eastern Europe. In the bad old days, things like this probably happened without public accountability.
