holidayloverxx, No not all she's a far better skier than me, helps starting at 8 rather than 46 Don't get me wrong though I'm reasonably happy with my skiing.
When he was about 7 or 8 I persuaded the Chief Smilie Maker that I had to ski 3 times as often as him because he was such a fast learner, it was the only way I could maintain my responsibility to look after him on the mountain
My hope was to stay ahead of him until he was 16.
He turned 16 last month and I've just about made it but it was tough: I had to limit him to 1 week this Winter

my own family: alex 5 and erin 7.
Alex - on 4.0m radius skis and understands that turning is cool - and boy does he turn, carvy and perfectly parallel. Therefore I have to put in HUGE effort to stay in his tracks, even on 12m radius slalom skis. It's one way I might enable my technique to keep up with his....

I screwed up this year and she skied 3 weeks to my 4, fell even further behind She's concentrating on GCSE''s next year so will probably only ski at Easter although we might be looking at BASI1 in the summer, possibly in Austria (on the basis that it's prettier than Hemel).

I've found you can extend that by 1-2 years by never allowing them off piste, so that even when they're better than you on piste, you can still maintain a certain superiority in the powder. You have to let them off eventually, and then, sadly, all is lost. The 18 yr old takes the 9 year old with her down a powder field, and it's all downhill from there...

Another way to stay ahead is to persuade them to take up boarding. Sadly this gain is a short term fix and will only last about 3 weeks
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Colin B, That is a smashing bit of work, and Natalie is a great kid. Treasure it all.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Colin B, nice one, you just made me waste my afternoon I think my lads 1 min ski lesson (05 to 11) has a bit of a recurring theme
