Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

MoodyFFS, not a twin tip in sight either Laughing

He's using compacts I think, so it dates it to late 70s early 80s.

Ballet Skis. I think that's from a mid 80's warren miller film.

So why does it come up with 1992 on the front screen? Puzzled wink

Arctic Roll, Embarassed Embarassed missed that - maybe it is a 1992 film but the skis and the style of clothing look a lot earlier than that. Look up Wayne Wong - he was one of WM's earlier star and he did way more tricks.

He's using black and orange Salomon SXs which means post 1990, IIRC probably about 1994.

 You know it makes sense.

Second film says '15 years later' - so that's 2009 minus 15 equals 1994. Bingo!

On our L2 course Donny was doing one-legged 360s faster than the eye could see. I only managed about 1.5 turns and, after falling with a thump, decided that was enough for me.

Look like Volkl Ballet skis - 150cm - and Volkl Ballet poles (probably same length as the ski)
Boots - they were available from spring 1990 and in the shops for season 90/91 - the first foamable Salomon I think.
Have a confession to make... used to do some of that stuff (not to anything like that standard I hasten to add) but it was a good laugh. I even went on a course to L2A one summer to learn from Regent Deziel who was the then world champ. I gave up shortly after when I realised it was actually a pants way to travel around and a waste of a good mountain. The one piece and mandatory porno moustache frightened me off a bit too. Still, it was all the rage and the UK produced some top ballet skiers and the ski show fantasias were all ballet and aerials.

Bode Swiller, are you sure about the boots? I had (shame, I know, I was young, in fairness I moved onto Tecnica TNT's the year after) a pair of Sal SX92s in season 88-89 and I didn't think the black clog, yellow/orange cuff came out till quite a few years later?

Timeless tune (white lines), mad skills. Would love to be able to do a fraction of the poo-poo he was laying down.

under a new name, I'm fairly sure. If you remember the first Salomon ski was orange and that was 1990/91 and that boot was co-ordinated. Hopefully someone will be along soon to agree or not.

What I find amazing with that sort of thing is how the ski almost becomes like an extension of the foot The only other videos I've seen where I get a similar feeling are when you watch the training ones thatFastman does. It's awesome skiing though.

Bode Swiller, hmmm, you have a point. Anyway, I think the video is convincingly dated to 1994.

Megamum, you mean your skis aren't like extensions of your feet?

under a new name, Not yet Sad However, the feeling is starting to arrive gradually. Sometimes I feel as though I'm moving around without needing to consider that the weight of the ski is there - for example when I'm adjusting a standing position or needing to swing the ski's around in a small space. I'm not tripping myself up on the length anywhere near as much. There have been the odd occasions where I've quite competently moved around on them and shifted the ski as though it is an extension of my foot and secretly thought 'that's almost as good a the instructors do it!' However, that's only when not going along Laughing Laughing Laughing
