Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just booked to go to Adelboden in the second week in Jan 2012 to the Hotel Beau-site. What's the resort hotel like? Any feedback welcome, thanks Blush

Hi I stayed in this hotel - but in summer time as part of our motorcycle touring. It was a lovely hotel - nice size room and excellent food. Would quite like to go there in winter - though I think you have to take a ski bus (or perhaps hotel shuttle) to get to ski lifts.

I will be back in Adelboden in April and I'm looking for info on skiing there!

Expected to be there in third week of Jan but staying in Zweisimman as it is more convenient for Gstaad, Lenk and Adelboden. Adelboden seems to have loads of drag lifts.

Hotel Beau-Site is a very nice traditional Swiss chalet-style hotel, family-run, close to the centre of Adelboden with great Alpine views. You can walk from there to the lifts. There are only two drag lifts in the main skiing area...

There must be another Adelboden in Bernese Oberland in Switzerland as Bergfex reports Adelboden has 211km piste and has lifts listed as

No of Cable car = 6
No. of Gondolas = 6
No. of chairlifts = 11
No. of drag lifts = 49

Bergfex also provides the piste map of the entire area and the drag lifts are clearly visible within the Adelboden area which is linked to Lenk From experience Swiss resorts are not keen to modernised and tend to stick with the drag lifts. However 2 drag lifts is a factor of 24 out when compared with the 49 reported in Bergfex.

freeheelskier,

Thanks for the tips.

I was thinking of driving from Zweisimman to Lenk so that I could ski Leiterli on one side and then Metschstand on the opposite side. With the latter I could ski to Adeboden. I intend to give it a miss to the remaining areas like Elsinghorn which has one cable car and all the 9 remainders are drag lifts. The other unlinked area with Dossen peak also has one cable car with the 6 drag lifts. I was amazed by LittleMissMagpie version of only two drag lifts in the main skiing area of Adelboden. She probably mixed up the Metschstand side of Lenk, which has 3 drag lifts, with Adelboden.

Any recommendation on the best route from Gstaad/Lenk to Monterosa (Champuloc/Gressoney) in Aosta Valley of Italy? I believe the minor roads are very steep from Gstaad down to Bex. Going via Kandersteg car-on-train tunnel is another route and the safest but longest rout seems to return back to Spiez and travel on the Bern/Fribourg/Vevey motorway to Italy.

Hi
I lived in Lenk for 2 years.
I think it is the best place to base your self if you want to ski the Lenk/Adelboden area as the queues are shorter and you do not have to take the long gondola up from Adelboden. Also the terrain is mush better on the Lenk side of the area. The other lenk area, Betelberg has some good tree skiing if the weather craps out.
The two drag lifts refer to a small area at the end of the Adelboden vally not the main area.
