Not sure about the train prices, but I do know the Arlberg Express is slightly cheaper than the pre-booked train prices. The other benefit of the bus is that they are pretty good about dropping you off & picking close to the hotel, although we were fortunate to be staying on the main Dorfstrasse when they did this. If your hotel was on a smaller side road they seem to be able to coordinate taxis too. The bus trip is pretty good, you see more of the scenery than from the train in fact.

The bus ticks all the boxes for me then if the scenery is better anyway and it's cheaper so I'll go with that, especially as my flight times already coincide with it. Besides, I've just had a look at the timetable that goes up to 10th Dec (I've been using the OBB website) and I'd have to wait longer for the train on the way out anyway. Bus it is  it means I don't have to move any luggage either once I've got on which is obviously a slight advantage.

Pre-book the train tickets and you can get them cheaper. 19 Euros from Zurich to St Anton (booked it via oebb.at). From what I understand there are only a limited number at that price, and they are for a certain train only.

We've often contemplated stating at the griabli, however you don't have that ski down in the dark  I'm sure it will bd very popular though. Roll on march - can't wait to get back out there again

I can't wait that long. I gave it a miss last season and I'm now trying to persuade the OH to go at Xmas. If that fails I may have to have a cheeky weekend just before Xmas on my own. Plus I need new boots and that requires a trip to Jenneweins.

No crowds on Rendl is nothing to do with a new lift or old lift . Tourists just look where the Sun is shining, they have no idea about where the best snow is.
No amount of mountain Re-Engineering/Visitor Experience can change that

Not quite Arlberg, but across the mountain at Warth had loads of snow this morning, right down to the valley. The highest car park on the pass was completely blocked with snow, just two cars almost buried and no way out. The lifts were all shut, but I saw a lone ski-tourer taking advantage of the early snow.
I then went up Diedamskopf for a look, 2050m at the summit and at least 50cm of snow. The large 4x4 tracks up the mountain were cpmpletely buried. Snow right down to around 1000m.

Seems like the proposed link between Warth/Schocken and Lech is actually a Schrocken  lift. The area for the link is shown on maps as Auenfeld.
Lift World http://www.lift-world.info/en/lifts/projects/page1.htm shows a lift called Auenfeldjet, a 10 seater detachable gondola lift for construction during 2012 (operational 2012/2013 season?) by Doppelmayr but is listed as unconfirmed.
Also shown http://www.seilbahntechnik.net/en/lifts/projects/page2.htm for Schrocken is Dorfbahn an 8 seater detachable gondola. But with no constructor, construction year and is listed as unconfirmed.
This would seem to be a base lift out of Schrocken up to the bottom of the Falken-Korbersee chair.

I'd say the link is more in the middle of the two. The current Auenfeld lift takes you up to Saloberkopf, from where you can get to either Warth or Schroeken. The new lift project to link the two, looking at the Arlberg piste map for the upcoming season, goes from the bottom of the upgraded Wiebermahd to part way up the existing Sonnen-jet/Auenfeldbahn.

See from Sydney's blog that the Mailbox internet cafe won't reopen this season and will become a gift shop.
I know several places in town (bars etc) where you can pay for wifi, and of course a number of hotels give you free wifi.
But I reckon if one of the bars in the centre started offering free wifi they'd probably find they drew in quite a few extra punters.

Interesting. Was often quite busy whenever I went past, mostly seasonnaires. Plus teh job/accomoodation/for sale board was very useful. They were also the ones that did the seasonnaire discount cards. Think wifi at Fang and Arlrock is free. but TBH never really needed it as I was always living/working in a chalet with wi-fi.

If you're in Austria for a fair bit and need internet access then think about getting a drei.at SuperSim. It's what I use, can get on PAYG basis,
15 bucks up front then 12 bucks per month (or whenever you want to top up) gets you 1000mins, 1000text, 5gb data. It also has 3LikeHome which for me is great as when I
pop back to UK I can use the data bundle in UK and call back to austria through the bundled mins. I sometimes use my phone as a tethered modem
and in my apartment at least get very good connection, around 2mb. More details here

waynos, have to say I think St Anton could learn a little from the approach Schladming has taken to Wifi. Quite a few bars and restaurants seemed to have free wifi when I was there in summer. Indeed the central part of town seemed to have it.

nozawaonsen, the wifi in Schladming is a town wide effort, I think paid for by the gemeinde. Free wifi is available at some lift stations as well. I'm sure Schladming has been learning lots from St Anton
in how to obtain lots of state cash for the world champs. Piles of building work still going on around town and all needs completing in next few weeks. Going off topic, I'll stop.

Wifi i know was Free with no login/PW in Stanton Cafe & Grunbeck (last season) but your need to buy a Coffee or something.
