Hello Everyone,
I'm a 1st time member here, but I just came back from a ski trip to Nozawa, near Nagano, Japan, after a 22 year absence from beginning skiing in Colorado and I think I'm hooked on skiing again.
I was a university student and was invited on a ski trip to Colorado. I didn't know anything about skiing, except that it looked fun to slide through the snow. After a few beginning lessons and falling on my ass a lot, I was hooked.
I hadn't skied after many years due to my busy working schedule until about 22 years later, after a year of being laid off and working part-time for an elementary school in Japan. Anyway, on my recent ski trip to Nozawa, again, I fell on my ass again, but only once on the beginning slopes. I was invited to try a couple of intermediate slopes, where the slopes were steeper. My 1st thought to my now wife was "F**k y**! She's a more experienced skier, starting at age 3 and being in ski clubs.
To make the story short, I fell on my ass many times, but I got up each time and got better at skiing on that slope. Afterwards, I decided to try my luck again on that slope. I fell more times, but felt confident. After that. I stayed with the beginning slopes.
So, I'm back now and I want to get back at skiing again. I can use any advice/tips for a 40yr. old getting back into it after a long absence.
Thanks!
Manny

Yes, I am in Osaka, Japan. I've been living here for about 7 years as an English teacher. I teach 1st and 6th grade elementary school. They're a lot of fun. There is still skiin in Nozawa, but the season will end towards the end of the month. Nozawa is a great place to experience the true Japanese culture without the commercialism influences like McDonald's and Starbucks. There are a lot of public onsens (bath houses) that are free and clean. If you're an early bird, there's the morning market, starting at 5 am.
Yes, I plan to take more, more, and more lessons on form, techniques, and understanding ski terrain, and equipment.

Manny3, Welcome back into the fold
I didn't even try skiing until I was 35 but am now totally addicted doing 3 to 4 weeks a year. It does kind of creep up on you. I would back up the lessons point... having a lesson and then spending some time practising the drills really makes a difference, it only has to be 20 mins a day while you are out to make a big difference. If you can get some weekends skiing in during the winter the regular practice will probably allow you to progress more quickly than if you are just limited to a week or two each year.
Anyhow... have fun, that's what it's all about.
