Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Eider - opnions on build quality?

I really do need to replace my 11 year old Mountain Hardwear jacket.

If I could simply buy exactly the same one again, I would. It's done somewhere around 450-500 days of skiing, some sailing, and generally been put to use when I wanted to stay dry. Absolutely bombproof, pockets in all the right places, etc.

But it's come to the end of its life and performance is not what it was.

I've seen an Eider that I quite like. What puts me off is that my better half managed to wear out an Eider jacket and two pairs of pants in about 3 seasons. No unusual activities beyond skiing 50-60 days a season.

Anyone got any opinions on Eider longevity?

Pretty shocking IMO. Had a pair of pants that started to fall apart after about 50 days and they were top of the range.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Cotswold Outdoor currently have a Mountain Hardwear Gore-Tex Pro Shell down from £320 to £199 if that's the sort of thing you're looking for.

I've got an Eider jacket - at the time I purchased I also tried on Schoeffel - I bought the Eider as the fit was better, but I think the Schoeffel had better build quality. The Eider fabric seems very lightweight and the whole jacket isn't the warmest thing I've ever worn. The odd chair lift in a wind-chill approaching -20C and its been way too cold unless well layered underneath.

I had one about 8 years ago. It was awful and I had to threaten S&R with legal action to get it sorted. Trousers were ok

Arcteryx on the other hand has been bomb proof.
