Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

16 year old Glasgow ski-er with DS needs a buddy

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi - I'm a newbie here, and have been directed to this part of the site.
My son "J" is a fit and capable young college student with Downs Syndrome. We live in Kilsyth. He has been taking classes with DSUK for a couple of years. He has reached the point where he can ski on easy slopes at Braehead, he has skied at Aviemore and in New Zealand, and he is looking for a longer term 1:1 ski-support-buddy for future ski holidays. He is fairly independent, chatty, cheery and determined, and in a position to pay both peoples expenses to Scottish, European or wider destinations. Applicants must be willing to be police checked, live in the Greater Glasgow area, ideally be male and have an affinity with young people. Initially we are looking at easy local days out ... there is no rush. Any ideas... do you know anyone who might enjoy free skiing?
Please keep personal details private and off-list.

Hi,

I live in Taunton, Somerset, which is probably as far away from the greater glasgow area as you can get, so it probably wont be suitable but I thought I would tell you a bit about myself so if you are really stuck you can get in contact.

I am a 26 yr old male. I have been on one ski trip to Les 2 Alps in 2009 and had a bash on the snow domes a few times so I would definately class myself in the beginner category. I currently work part time for the disabled childrens social work team here in somerset. The rest of the time I support adults and young people through direct payments. I have experience in holiday suppport, visiting Morrocco, Hamburg and all over the UK with a few individuals..

Anyway, like I said if you cant find anyone, get in touch and we can see what we can do.

All the best

Rhys

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi,
Given that you have skied with DSUK have you tried approaching DSUK. The office may well be able to help you find a volunteer and/or instructor.

Cheers, Dave

Hi, and thanks for the interest - I'm delighted to have made contact with a perfect ski-buddy for my son living in my area, and they have been ski-ing a couple of times already.
