Poster: A snowHead
|
We have booked to go to Ischgl for the end of season concert namely, The Killers. Would like some hints and tips if anyone has been to one of these. The concert starts at 1pm on Saturday so we aim to ski in the morning but realise it's going to be busy!!! We are actually staying in Kappl just down the valley and aim to get the bus into Ischgl. We are travelling out on Thursday 28th April - Manchester to Zurich with Easyjet and taking the train to Landeck. We intend to ski Friday, Saturday am and Sunday and travel back Monday 2nd May. Any info would be useful, particularly in relation to bars and restaurants in Kappl itself. Thanks in anticipation.

Just got back from Ischgl about an hour ago and had a great time. Not stayed in Kappl but there seem to be a few bars and restaurants. Its reputedly much cheaper than Ischgl. Ischgl itself will be mobbed for the weekend. Its not just about the concert, its a 3 day 24 hour end of season party the likes of which you will never have experienced.

snowbandit, Should be lots of fun! A lot of people will be in town just for the concert and the party. Slopes will not necessarily be that busy. Down in the valley it will likely be green though they try to keep the slopes running down to the valley. Depending on how the weather plays out between now and then (I've been skiing in powder in Ischgl in last week of April) there is a good chance most of the slopes will be open, the majority are above 2000m and north facing. Obviously it will be spring skiing. Beyond 2pm you are likely to want to be enjoying the sunshine.
The concert itself will be up at the top (weather permitting). The lift down at the end will be packed. Though you can probably ski.
Town will have a carnival feel. All the bars put tables outside. There are marquees. At the Romantica end they tend to have club DJs. Down at Nikki's Stadl there are tables everywhere, the bridge becomes party central. Nikki sometimes rents a mobile crane so he can dress up on costumes and swing above the crowd from 50m above... Etc, etc...

snowbandit, Where are you staying in kappl? Easier and faster getting taxi to ischgl - around 11 euros. Best getting middle gondola too in my experience - quieter than other too. Schupfa bar in kappl good beside gondola but suspect not the case at the time of year you're going.

boabski, Staying at the Gasthof Hirschen -(gets very good reviews on Booking.com) -seems to be on the main road looking at the map. Skied Ischgl and Galtur twice last season in January and early April - this is just an end of season foray to escape all the royal wedding raz a ma taz - I think ski-ing and watching a Killers concert will have the edge - ( no pun intended)

Stayed at gasthof alpenfrieden this year which was great - in the tschatscha part of town (where the piste goes under road). Food was excellent and superb value. As a visitor you'll pay around €14 for a 4 course meal. Last year we stayed at the hotel silvretta but food was rubbish. The hotel post looked pretty nice for evening meal as does the schaffstahl. Not a lot going on in kappl at night. Are their lifts open at that time of year?

What a concert. You'll never get closer to this band anywhere else. Surprising amount of snow. But... when it says the concert is in the price of the lift pass it doesn't say the lift pass is 75 euros for the day as opposed to 38 normally!
