Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Paradiski la Plagne / les Arcs - Cross Country

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there

I've just found out someone I know has some accommodation in Peisey-Nancroix. There looks to be a reasonable amount of cross country available (40km in the nordic ski centre although I can't find out where this is) and a reasonable amount of snow in the resort (63cm apparently on the lower slopes at 1600m, the resort is about 1300m from what I can see).

Just wondering if anyone has ever been and if anyone has ever used the cross country here? If so, what is it like?

Also, how long would 40km keep you occupied for (I've never been before)? Apparently Paradiski has 153km and the la Plagne side has 80km of tracks, so would the ski centre be enough or would I probably be looking to expand after a few days?

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

The nordic centre is about a 15-20 minute walk from Nancroix and is the terminus of the resort bus service from Peisey (or was when I was there 3 years ago). The centre offers rentals and instruction and has a changing area. I found the staff very friendly. There's also a nice bar next door. I can't comment on how much it would keep you occupied, as I just went there for a couple of lessons and then another session so I could swear at my disobedient skis.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

skierbiggsy, if you are a beginner then the area near Nancroix gives you more than enough for a week. If you are already quite good at XC then there are also tracks higher in the resort up in the Arc 2000 bowl by the lake and also near the Col de la chal. There are other areas around Arc 1800 and a track from Arc 1600 to Arc 2000 area which might be marked, not sure. There is also a big XC area on the far side of La Plagne in Champagny de Haut. Also well worth the effort to get over there.

If you want more info have a look at my Les Arcs group site, link below.
