Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The second picture should be mandatory viewing for people who ski just off the edge of the piste to learn off piste skiing. That looks like a big avalanche. The fracture line is just below the central trees and then up to the ridge behind the closest red pole and it keeps on going.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Wow, that 2nd pic is literally right on the edge of the piste.
And lets be honest - hands up who hasn't casually been just "off the side" of the piste somewhere like that ?

Gazzza, Actually the piste is over the avalanche, they set it off in the morning over the site of the piste and then pisted it in. Apparently the mantle was so unstable that they could basically get it going anywhere they pleased yesterday! It was a mass of new snow on old (about 60-80cm on this bit), that all then got soggy at the end of the day so we had heavy unstable slumps all o0ver the shot. Then last night clear skies and cold forze it all up again and made it really safe again... Wierd... Off-piste was really good today if a little bizzare. You could ski the whole mountain like it was a piste, got a bit tricky on Southern aspects in the afternoon but some of the strangest and greatest skiing I have ever done.

It was funny as yesterday there were a few comments floating around in the bars along the lines of "honestly they only had a few runs open - bit lazy..." hopefully now everyone can see what they were up to! Some times the pisteur teams do some epic work, there were dynamite blast holes all over the place right up at the source points all over (and outside), the resort. Must have been pretty dicey getting up there to do it last night and this morning. And then to use a nice big one and stick an extra piste over it was just gilding the lilly (must have been getting bored with the driving up and down the same old pistes!).

el nombre, Easy but still fun! Mind you there were still plenty of people parking it. You had to keep your weight well forward to avoid trailing the ends into a furrow and tripping yourself up. face plants resulted in unexpected swimming as the crust let you in to three foot of powder underneath...
