Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

European Youth Olympics- Evo's Sam Clissold

Poster: A snowHead
Today was the first day of mens competition at the European Youth Olympics and the first day of action for Sam Clissold, representing Team Evolution as part of the British Team.

After speaking to Sam last night and discussing his approach for the pretty tricky icy slopes, it came as a massive surprise to hear that the Team GB coaches had taken the athletes out on a jog last night, resulting in a sprained ankle from Sam and an obvious dip in confidence for him regarding his tactics for the races.

The report from Sam was that his ankle was swollen and that he needed help getting his boot on and had problems with flexing. An ultra sound from the Team GB Medical Team revealed damage to scar tissue around the ankle joint, and the initial thought from Sam was that he wouldnt be able to race, despite the support from Team GB.

Despite this unwanted drama, the decision was made that under pain killers Sam would start and compete, and we're glad that he did, because on the first run he absolutely slayed it!

Starting from a rank of 63, Sam stormed up the placings to 32nd after the first run, narrowly missing out on the flip by only a few tenths. His run was aggressive and clean, showing great tactics and further proof of his developed basic understanding of his technique, and a good reward for the hard work over the past few training blocks.

By the time the second run came around, the pain killers had started wearing off and with a fully swollen ankle Sam fought hard to retain his position and most importantly cement his position amongst his peers.
