Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bec des Etagnes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Went up Mt Fort this morning and wasn't quite sure what to do. Rosablanche is very tracked and did a Pralong tour yesterday. Decided to come down front side of Mt Fort and hike up to the Bec des Etagnes, the next peak on the ridge. Not been up there before.

Mt Fort is a bit bumpy at the moment but nice chalky snow

Came down under the cables and traversed across above the Refuge de Tortin. Brings you out onto this slope. Hike up diagonally left and the the Bec des Etagnes is the right of the 2 peaks

View from the summit

Good view of the exposure on Mt Fort North Face. Superbowl entry to the Mt Fort glacier centre left with Rosablanche in the background

Now to get down. A bit steeper than I imagined...

Tricky snow and that couloir was very tight!

Enjoying the view with a definite sense of relief....

The second pitch down to the lake - would be sensational in powder

Finally some nice snow further down

Looking back up from Siviez. Still plenty of snow on the pistes.

Alas finished the day losing to Tim at speed skiing....

Looking forward to doing that again in powder!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
