Poster: A snowHead

Has anyone else been wondering why the Flaine management have replaced the telecabines on the Grandes Platieres with new ones which have 5 seats at each end? (And they are completely new, it's not just the old ones with seats installed). The signs say, "10 seated and 6 standing". The 6 standing bit just doesn't happen fully; I would say the average capacity is now 12, no matter how busy it is. The net effect is that the capacity of the Grandes Platieres has been dramatically reduced, resulting in the queue stretching out of the building even when the resort is relatively quiet. It will be chaos now that the French holidays have started.
Would the obvious place to invest not have been the replacement of the ancient 2 seat Diamant Noir chair with a quad or 6 man high speed chair? That would have provided a second fairly fast route to the top of the hill, using the Tete des Verds from the bottom and then dropping down onto the Diamant Noir.
Or am I missing something? Do the French prefer to stand in long queues and then sit down rather than actually spending more time ski-ing?

SnowballCowie,
A cunning plan to make the Brits queue whilst the Frogs jump the line and get a seat?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

SnowballCowie, I agree and have often thought that an upgrade on the old 2 seater would be useful and improve access to the top. Not my favourite chair either, been whacked too many times
What are the changes like between Foret & Forum with the new red down from the old rope tow area?

SnowballCowie, Capacity of the DMC had been reduced to 18 from 25 because it got too close to the new tete des verds chair underneath.
There is an express line for the DMC if you don't mind standing, thats what we do.
Lou, new red is very short steepish red they were dumping snow on to it from trucks before christmas, its called satan and just avoids good skiers using the beginner carpet (i think there is a new carpet, did not look hard) the area is much more fenced off now.

80 "malaises" a season ...this from http://associationflainoise.free.fr/articles/spip.php?article102&lang=fr
They do need to extend the single line tho...
Il y aura aussi une reprise de l’aménagement intérieur de la gare des Platières, dans le style épuré de Flaine.

The queue is longer mainly due to the single line ropes they have put in the main waiting area which stop the scrum you used to get to go through the turnstiles. It actually goes pretty quickly and we didn't mind waiting a bit longer to sit down as the old ride stood up in ski boots was quite uncomfortable. The cabins are completely new and must have been a major investment.
The carpet is new and the old drag lift and tow rope have been removed - its quick and pedestrians can use it to access Le Bissac for lunch if you have any none skiers with you which is good.
The Perdirx lift and the Col de Plat lift which both start from near Le Blanchot restaurant will both be removed this summer and be replaced by a new high speed chair ' le desert blanc', at the same time the diamont noir lift will have a good service so thats also good news.
The new red satan is pretty steep but you don't see that until committed which makes for some interesting viewing when in Le Pre restaurant outside the DMC....
