Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Equipment hire in Andorra

Poster: A snowHead
I am taking my family to Andorra at half term. We have not booked a package. Does anybody know if it is better to prebook the ski's, boots, passes and lessons on the web or whether it is just as well to turn up at one of the hire shops? And how about insurance? Can that be purchased there?

I'm going at half term with my kids too. I booked ski hire (boots, sticks & kids helmets too), lift passes & ski school as a package very cheaply with www.1activeholidays.com (ask for Gemma she is v. helpful).
"Insure & go" are cheap for holiday insurance. I've got free family holiday insurance included in my bank account extras, have you?
You save about 25% by renting your ski equipment on line in advance.
It's my kids first time skiing and we will be mainly on the piste around Soldeu from the 21st to the 25th Feb. My kids are 10 & 8 years old. Have a good time!

Pre-booking equipment hire is typically cheaper in the Pyrenees (often considerably). The hire shop in the telecabina station is Soldeu is very good (by Pyrenees standards).

As gary says you'll save 25% off your ski hire by pre-booking, and in low season you can get 30% off. I run www.soldeu-andorra.com/shop where you can pre-book from Sports Calbo.

You can purchase mountain insurance from the kiosks at the bottom of the gondola. It's around €3.60 per day and you can only buy it before you have used your lift pass.

Was in El Tarter a couple of weeks ago,pre booked skis through SNOWBRAINER.
They use Ski Calbo which has a shop just before you turn into the gondla car park.
I got a set of silver catagory skis for about £54,resort price would have been over 100euros and they were in very good nick.
You will need to take some sort of ID with you and leave it with them.

If you are going to Arinsal, the company that operates lifts and mountain eateries is called vallnord, Apply for a loyalty card on their site for 10% off passes and lunches. To get the 10& off passes you will need your card at the lift pass office, so ensure they post to you before you leave

That was my first ski destination....seems a very long time ago!I'm sure that hire shop was there then, along with a shed where they sold a very potent liquor type thingy...tasted a bit like sweet cough mixture which could melt tarmac Shocked
As I recall, ski hire was a bit 'variable'.No doubt things have improved a bit.
