Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Schladming - Hotel Rossl

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just returned from aweek in Schladming with Crystal, here are my views.....

Hotel - dated, rooms on the first and second floor with no lift. They were however clean, warm and comfortable with newly (?) fitted bathrooms. Not too much issue with noise from the club in the basement, main issue was security - guests werre asked to lock the door at all times as the entrance to the club and the hotel are right next to each other - as expected this did not ahppen, and more than once there were some fairly drunk people trying to get into the club by going upstairs - not really a problem though as they usually realised somrthing was wrong! This was an issue, but not a major one. Note to hotel (who own the club) - why not fit a Yale typre lock that will lock automatically when the door is closed?

Food - meals taken in Neue Post Hotel (about 50m away in the pedestrianised high street) - good quality, choice of menu, cheapish beer at 3.20 euros. Only complaint was the serving times were early at 6-7.30 so they could reuse the tables later. If you are going to run a tab, be aware they do not accept cards for payment - cash only.

TO - no complaints, didn't really see the rep, no regular meetings at either hotel, couldn't be bothered to walk to other hotels to see her. Transfer in was fine, transfer out a pain - we were at airport by 9.00 for a 13.20 flight. Salzburg airport on the way in was carnage - too many flights, cases an skis were left outside on trolleys for you to rummage through with no clear guidance - took quite a while!

Apres - Catered for all tastes - Tenne was good fun if a bit (by comparison) expensive. Later in the evening we tended to retire to the little sports bar (turn right out of the hotel then right agian just over the road) - a bit like a front room bar with a good selection of beer and everything else, quiet music and poular with locals - run by a guy who seemed to be a cross between Rene from Allo Allo and Basil Fawlty. The night race was great fun - didn't bother to pay to watch, but watched on big screens in the town centre. THe night before had a pre-race warm up with a live party band who were pretty good, some compere singing and dancers, numerous food and drink outlets and thousands of of goodnatured drunks. The race night was more of the same with even more people - really good fun, and a big draw to consider returning - the main comment was that if you had 60000 people in one place in the UK you would have more than 5 policemen on duty, and with all th pushing and shoving and gerneral drunken behaviour, it would all of kicked off in a big way - it made a refreshing change!

SKi facilities - all refitted, and really very nice. Hire a locker at the base station - Planet Planai (3 euros a day for a double and 5 euros for a quad) - warm, comfortable and plenty of space - electronic lock accessed by lift pass, so no key to lose. At the start and end of the day you then have a lift to take you directly to and from the gondola - far better than walking in ski boots. Don't forget to use the skiline kiosks at the end of the day for your Ski ECG - a grapcal representation of lifts used, approx distance travelled and height skiied down each day.

The skiing - great for intermediates - lots of long swooping runs, that make a well linked home mountain. The trip over to hauser Kibling was easy, more long runs right to the valley and a long, long blue under the Hofi express chairs, great to bomb down! The ride back is a little harder, witha quite challenging black, although there is a road blue that does the same job, but is quite flat. The link to HochWurzen is via the Golden jet, a 2 stage gondola. You can ski down to the midstation, but the lower part is steep and icy in places - good fun, but not for the faint hearted. The ride up to Hochwurzen is via 2 chairs, the first a slow 2 man - needs replacing! After the 2 chairs, a train gondola (don't know how else to describe it takes you up to the top where you have a choice of a few sweeping runs that can be steep in places but gret for internediates, or a run off to the right that takes you to the basic Jet gondola for the Link to Reiteralm - again this si 2 stage, the lower part is very sliable, but without a good dose of speed there is a long flat bit at the end. The link is a two man chaoir again (replace!) Once up, the skiing is great my favourite mountain!

All in all a great week, great snow, and on thr Friday in sun and perfe3ctly groomed pistes we easily skied to the valleys of all four mountains with an 8.30 start and 4.00 pm finish, clocking up over 55 kilometers on the way

I will certainly return

Any questions, more than happy to try and help!
