My mum has big calfs she finds the boots that are the right size for her foot (mondo size 24.5) are to tight round her calves. So I was wondering if you get ski boots with wider openings (top bit, not sure what the name is)?

My missus has big calfs but doesn't have a problem. Has your mum had this problem with several pair of boots?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I believe that women have different shaped calves than men, hence the reason for this problem. Specifically, I think their calves are lower than men's, which is one reason for female-specific boots

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Try Head Edge boots they are good for wide feet and big calves, the guys at Skee-tex in Essex have good boot fitters.

most boots only have female specific liners (fur/colour etc and sometimes a lower cut calf area) but the shells on the majority of boots are justsmaller sizes in unisex models, the manufacturer may add a cuff flare or give a heel lift in the box but they are predominently the same as the mens model

i didn't see wide feet mentioned anywhere in the opening post
the most important thing is to get the fit a good as possible on the foot, a good boot fitter can adjust the cuff of most boots to make it fit the calf, no point having a boot which fits in the calf and having the foot rattle around inside the shell
