hi everyone,
I'm off to La Rosiere on Saturday with my boyfriend who is a beginner, apart from a "learn to ski in a day" course he did 6 months ago at Tamworth. We arrive in resort at Lunchtime and want to have a little potter around on the slopes in the afternoon if possible so he can recap on what he learnt at Tamworth and hopefully remember enough not to get put in a "total beginners" class in ski school the following day...
So I have a couple of questions:
1) are there any free drag lifts (the smaller the better really) that will be open to people without a ski pass (we're thinking of starting ours proper on Sunday as we'll be tired from travelling on Sat so literally just want a couple of up and downs I think!) - preferably a green run!
2) a long time skier myself, but never having been to ski school, a questions about that... at the ESF are there different levels of "beginner" class - not sure my bf will be up to the low intermediate class (he can snow plow and use a lift but not got the hang of turning so much yet) - but at the same time I don't want his first lesson to be with complete beginners seeing as he's done a day and knows the very basic basics, seems like a waste to have to do all that again. He's very fit and sporty and I think he'd pick things up quickly.

From my experience, i tried to book in a group above my level and on the first day the instructor bumped me down to the class below, very embarassing. I assume they would do it the other way as well. That was in Les menuires with ESF in 1999!!!!

Manessier (in the bottom left of the piste map) is a free drag (or at least, was, in 2007). There may be others; not sure. When I had ESF lessons in La Ros, they let us warm up then split us into groups (though we may have been all at the same initial level). You probably can get moved too if need be.

Oh yes, I have heard it can be extremeley cold in La Rosiere.

icedgemma, There are 2 free lifts on the beginner's slopes near the Front de Neige in the village and another in Les Eucherts. The standard of instruction is very high in La Rosiere from my observations all the skis schools work hard to get their classes off the nursery slopes and enjoying thntain as quickly as possible.
