Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Shower - Eat - Leave!

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello all,

I am driving back from Morzine on the 12th March. The plan is to ski all day saturday - drive down the mountain and stop somewhere for a shower, change of clothes and dinner before pootling on up to Calais for a ferry at 6am the next day.

Can anyone recommend a cheapish hotel that we could use a crash pad (not even staying the night just using and abusing the shower facilities!) that has a GOOD restaurant nearby? (for good I mean not terrible chain food crap, good chains and nice local places only please wink )

I was thinking somewhere between Morzine and Chambery - but we don't really want to go any further than that.

All ideas greatly received Very Happy

If you only need shower facilities a local swimming baths will probably be a lot cheaper.

can't really help other than observe that some of the service stations have shower facilities (although I'm not quite sure that's what you are looking for).

Are you driving from Morzine to Calais via Chambery? Is that not a little bit out of the way?

Nadenoodlee, won't the accommodation you're leaving let you use the showers in the sauna/spa? Mine usually do...

under a new name, we've rented a chalet and kicking out time is 10am - asking to all (6) pop in 5pm for a shower/ faff about, is a bit rude I think and I certainly dont want last weeks guests rocking up to our chalet to use our showers!

rob@rar, I dont normally drive to Morzine so I have no idea - what route do you suggest?

DB, I'd rather pay that go public wink

How about - have a shower on Saturday morning, then change clothes but stay dirty and spend twice as much on dinner?

From Morzine to the A40 at Cluses, then follow the A40 to the A39 in the direction of Bourg en Bresse, up to Dijon where you take the A31 in the direction of Reims and Calais. Chambery is a very big detour.

Nadenoodlee, perhaps go via Annecy and Geneva and try this place in Duingt, which is at the closest end of the lake when driving from Albertville:

I've had several nice lunches there - the last time coming back from Les Arcs in late March a couple of years ago, and it was so warm we ate outside, overlooking the lake Toofy Grin - though I've never stayed the night. Cheap and cheerful, and the food was simple but good.

Sack the navigator or re-program the sat nav for shortest route!!!!

I would just skip the shower till morning on ferry but if its a must then cut a deal with a hotel just before geneva if you want to miss the traffic or eat earlier.

Drive all the way back to Calais without a wash? Eew. I don't know Nadenoodlee, but I'm guessing that won't be an acceptable option! Shocked

It's quite a detour. Not quite as far as Chambery, but it's taking you a long way out of your way.

Nadenoodlee, I see there are some not-so-brilliant reviews on the net. Maybe I was lucky...and mostly just had one course anyway. And, if you want the most direct route (I love Annecy, so have often made a point of going that way for its own sake, as part of the holiday) perhaps not such a good suggestion after all. Sorry.

Not sure about France but most swimming baths here in Austria have communal showers where you can flash your bits and private showers. This is central Europe where people sauna in the nuddy and don't get all excited when Janet Jackson has a wardrobe malfunction. When in Rome ....

Annecy is also in the wrong direction. There's a Formule 1 on the way in to Bourg en Bresse, and that being a large town I'm sure you can find somewhere nice to eat. BnB is about two hours from Morzine. If you don't want to travel that far there's a F1 hotel near St Julien en Genevois which is just off the autoroute you'll be following, and about an hour from Morzine. No idea about local restaurants though.

Just because we get our bits out does not mean it's a group session. Believe it or not keeping your bits covered up does not stop you sweating in a sauna. Smile Bet ya I can get into the local swimming baths, wash & flash me bits then out again quicker than checking in and out of a hotel ....... but each to his / her own. Wait a minute do they shower / have showers in France? Wink
