Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Corvara - 20th March - too late?!

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi all

Looking to book a weeks skiing in March with my girlfriend and we both really like the look of the Dolomites, Corvara in particular. Corvara appeals to me as I've never even so much as looked at a pair of ski's in my life so am a complete beginner whereas she's been several times and would be at intermediate level.

We were looking at the week of 13th - 20th March but where we want to stay is fully booked for that week. Though they do have availability for the following week, the 20th - 27th March.

Our main concern really is as to what the conditions would be like in Corvara at that time. I know it's a crystal ball job to an extent as nobody knows what the whether could do before then but a general idea would be great. There's another 2 weeks after that before their season ends apparently so it does feel quite close to the end of the season. Though the tour operator did say that it's a very well looked after resort and they would expect the pistes to remain in a good condition all the way through to the end of the season and have snow machines etc.

Just wondering if anyone has been at that time before or of anyone has any knowledge of what it may be like. Would we be taking a risk or still a pretty safe bet?!

Thanks in advance!

Dan

danj, Corvara woudl be an excellent choice for both of you. As to the TO advice, if you are planning to go with Colletts then I would be happy with what they say (satisfied customer). There is externsive snowmaking as long as temps are low enough for it to be used. I feel it is getting late but I would be pretty sure that good snow could be found. You can't go by pPast snow records, but you could do a google search and see what you find - sorry haven;t got tiem to do it myself. I went 7th March last year and it was great.

danj, the Sella Ronda region in general is stuffed with snow making equipment. I'd be surprised if there's not ample skiing to be had. It was pretty good last week anyway!

Thanks for the replies so far... that's looking pretty positive! And yes it is with Colletts. When I was doing some research on here they seem to have nothing but good things said about them which can only be a positive! As it's my first ever trip I just really want it to be as I've imagined. No snow or not being able to experience good conditions would be a real downer I'd imagine!

Well we've bitten the bullet and booked it all up today! Will be in Corvara staying in the Chalet Verona with Colletts from the 20th - 27th March. Flying into Innsbruck and getting a transfer with them from there.

Still a tad nervous about the weather/conditions at that time I must admit but Colletts have tried to put our minds at ease that all should be fine and a good time would be had. Really hope so!

Just need to get myself some gear now and have a couple of lessons in advance!

Good call DanJ - Colletts are a very good TO and the staff are sweethearts. The area is deservedly a world heritage site and the skiing in and around Covara and the Prolongia should be spot on for you - if you send me a pm I can send you some pics of the area taken on our family hols (with Colletts) Toofy Grin

Hi Ian

Sorry only just seen this reply! I'll pm you now if you've still got those pics!

Not long to go now... off there this coming Sunday and the conditions are looking good still which is great news! Well... great news for my girlfriend at least who can ski! After having recently had a 'learn to ski in a day' lesson at the Hemel Snow Centre which was the first time I've ever so much as looked at a pair of skis I think I'm even more apprehensive about it than I was before!!

I'll give anything a go though... once!! Smile
