Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

how do you "book" an abs rucksack with Easyjet?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Have read all the stuff about travelling with ABS rucksacks
The sticky says Easyjet take them both hand and hold but you have to "book"/let them know.

How do you do that and get proof you have let them know?

Phoning to inform them wont give you proof will it?
Emailing is done through their system and so you dont get proof you sent it (and they take for ever to give a personal reply). In reply to our first general query - we were sent a very helpful automated response that we couldnt take our wedding cake!!!!!

Thanks

jayne durham, I think there is a "not happy with the answer" part to that initial e-mail. Keep going with it, you'll get a response from a humanoid of some sort eventually - I just hope your not flying for a while. Wink Print off all the documentation you can find, arrive early at the airport in case it takes you a while to address and be nice. You'll have no problems. Reminder: gas & handle inside a ski boot! Pack the rucksack part at the top of your checked-in luggage.

We are actually travelling next week - and only going hand luggage (hopefully!). We will print off all the IATA guidelines that Rob kindly put a link to ..... I still wonder what Gatwick security will make of it!
I had hoped to get proof that Easyjet were happy to take them - but as I said - as everything with them is pretty "anonymous" - I dont know how to get personal confirmation.

First time I have posted for ages as well.... Was distressed to find I am "down a crevasse". Hope it isnt a premonition!!!

jayne durham, no way will you be allowed the gas canister and the handle on as hand luggage. I wouldn't even try. Yes, I read what Michelle kindly posted but I'm sure that's related to bag and not the actual mechanisms, if you can't take 101ml of cough medicine on they in hand luggage they're not going to let a mini bomb.

IME they will ask you to take the equipment to oversize so that a qualified (!) security monkey can scan the stuff and "OK" it - watching this process is the peace of mind you need to make sure it gets on the plane.

Down a crevasse means you need to update your e-mail address in your profile...

jayne durham, Don't carry one myself, but having read all the stuff that goes on(here), I think what I would do would be to pack it in my case with all the other stuff and STFU.

Good luck

I have taken an ABS on loads of Easyjet and Ryanair flights. I just put the whole lot in my hold luggage. On the advice of a very well travelled guide I just keep quiet.

Travelled easyjet with ABS. The canister and handle with internal pyro are certified to be carried individually in hold luggage. Read the bumpf. My wife's got one too so each of our handle and canister combo travels in a separate piece of hold luggage. We use the "inactive" sacks as cabin luggage and have never had an issue. Probably more due to the fact that we keep schtum about what they are, I suspect.

There are some equestions you should not ask not least because the person answering them will not be the person checking in your "authorised by Easyjet" luggage.

I did... but the advice seemed to be to let the airline know - and that was my issue.. getting proof fromm Easyjet that I had let them know.

I am interested you appear to have taken the cannisters hand luggage - and have had no problems ...
...which is what we wanted to do (we arent taking any hold luggage and dont want the expense of paying for that just to pack the cannisters).

Didnt airport security challenge you at all?? We are still concerned that Gatwick security may make waves - especially if we dont have our proof from Easyjet - so we have decided not to have the stress this time and leave them at home!

I'm sorry, you have around £2,000 invested in ABS and you're too tight to pay £20 (or whatever it is), to take them with you?

I do understand the "extra hassle" factor 1) with ABS and 2) with checked luggage.

But are you mental? What price is the peace of mind of skiing with your ABS pack?

Meadow skipping pow lines all week?

I need a new one for my other half, I'll buy one off you for £100. PM me, thanks.

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

I took my snowpulse on Easyjet the last weekend (cylinder in my hold bag, rucksack as hand luggage). Turned up at Luton armed with a copy of the IATA regs and a printout of the email from Easyjet's 'Customer Experience Champion' that's posted on another thread on this (search for "airbag refused"). There was a quick check with the supervisor and I had to take my case to outsize luggage to get it x-rayed. Friends on the same flight with snowpulse rucksacks didn't even have to do that.

Put the dangerous bit in your hold luggage, take copies of the documentation and notify them at check in, I'd be amazed if there's a problem.

i am eastern european , but born from asian parents and live in the uk thanks to your generous social system. the government actually pay for me and my three illegitimate children to travel abroad as they believe it will enhance our well being and believe that although we can ill afford such a grand tour of the alps finer regions to ski in, we shouldnt be exempt from experiencing what the hard workers graft to pay for just because we are scamming it. I have told them that my lesbian partner needs to come along as i need help with snowboarding as it is hard to do with just one leg. they have also paid for five abs bags and we are allowed to take our gas cannisters on board with us.... if they didnt let us i would complain and shout discrimination.
