Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Rossignol Radical Jr 140 Ski

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My son went skiing last year for five seperate days with the school. He had had about 16 hrs of lessons, and is now wanting to buy some skis instead of hiring (bought Salamon Boots last week with Xmas money). I have found some Rossignol Radical Jr skis, but am a bit concerned as it looks like it is a racing ski. He is starting to parallel turn, but no where near racing. They are being sold new with bindings for £109 so good price, but don't want to buy if not suitable.

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

earn, all kids skis (well all the piste oriented ones anyway) are sold as "racing" skis. I think the high end Rossi ones have "Ibox" in the name. If it's the plain vanilla Radical Jnr he'll be absolutely fine.

Welcome to snowHead s btw.

Thanks for the reassurance Brian.

Megamum, they are being sold in Dundee, so if you are in Scotland might be OK.

Just found this info on them. Assume the 12m is the radius of the natural turn, but not sure what the other numbers mean.

•Bindings: Rossignol Axium 100 Jr Racing (gold/black)
•Sidecut: 104/67/90
•Radius: 12m
•Cap construction

Does the advice stay the same?

Cheers

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The "100" in the binding name is just part of the model number of the binding.
the 104/67/90 are the widths of the ski at the tip/underfoot/tail, and that looks fine.

All good Smile

Thank to everyone who has helped with this one. One new pair of skis tomorrow hopefully. Much better than spending his Xmas money on Xbox games!

This is what the blub says.

"If you would like the bindings fitted the Zip rail will be removed to make way for your Rossignol Axium 100JR X-Plate bindings and holes filled."

Not really sure what that means, but imagine they will be fixed toe once fitted.

Is that good ro bad?

earn, Neither good nor bad really. Just that if the bindings are on a rail, it allows better centering of different sized boots.
Our kids will have outgrown their skis before they need to change their boots. (K2 Juvy twin tips 3-4 weeks use) It should make selling the skis easier, as the bindings are adjustable toe and heel. Hopefully that will be at the start of next season though. We got Les Arcs next week and Val Thorens in April to get through yet.

Thanks for your help everyone. Bought these skis today and our son is delighted. Go brilliantly with his new Salamon boots. We bought the skis from Winter Shack in Dundee, but they also sell them online. Turns out they are actually £129 with binding fitted, which is what they are on ebay from the same seller. They sell mostly to trade, so you will never find them unless you call to get directions. Also got an Axon Mountain Helmet for £33, which was fab.

Thanks again
