Poster: A snowHead

hi..
going to Courmayeur this sunday (9-1-11) and noticed that they do a mont blanc unlimited pass that covers chamonix as well. is this worth it or am i as well to stick to Courmayeur.
first time in Courmayeur so if any advice forthcoming then greatly appreciated.
thought 300 half board for a week was ok..
cheers

Courmayeur only pass will be a bit limiting for a week. I'd get the Aosta Valley pass and not much more cost wise. That allows you access to LaThuile and Pila as well. There's free buses between the resorts that works well to get around. Not sure what the options are like to get to Chamonix (through the tunnel).

mugen, the normal Courmayeur pass allows you a day in La Thuile and Pila also (assuming you buy at least a 6 day pass). There's a free bus to La Thuile and for Pila you catch the bus to Aosta and ride the bubble lift up. I loved the variety of the ski area at Courmayeur but it can easily be covered in a couple of days. However with a fantastic town and easy visits to neighbouring resorts, it's a great base for a week's holiday in my opinion. I did see the bus to Chamonix but didn't use it myself, plus if you like the off-piste challenge there is the Vallée Blanche option from Punta Helbronner down to Chamonix.
What hotel are you staying at?

Yes that's a nice hotel and it's one of the ones that runs a complimentary minibus to the bubble lift at Dolonne which is handy. It is worth renting ski & boot lockers up at Plan Checrouit rather than lugging gear about but of course if you want to get the bus elsewhere you will have to bring them down with you. There is a red run down to the base station at Dolonne if you don't want to take the bubble down.

mugen, Courmayeur has probably better snow for what you're looking for (without knowing what you're looking for).
Have lunch at Chiecco.

Verbier for a day out from Courmayer?
Would this be a practical exercise?
