Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Neilski, I think GrahamN has been in one in the last few years. Might be worth sending him a PM in case he doesn't see this thread.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I went on one a couple of years back. It was good fun, but not especially 'full on' in content any more than my other times with snoworks instructors. The main thing that I did notice in the group I was with was the varying fitness. It did demand that skiers be able to keep going all day which was a problem for some of the less fit members of the group.

I have been on a number of Snoworks trips including St Anton last year and am going with them to St Anton again this Sunday also.

Last year the format was:

day 1 - half day with a guide and half day with an instructor,
days 2 to 5 - alternating whole days with either a guide or instructor,
day 6 - free skiing.

I think there were four groups of eight. They will move people up and down the groups during the week according to ability although there were only a few changes last time.

I have always been lucky with being in compatible groups although I have heard complaints about one or two participants lack of fitness in the less experienced off piste groups.

I assume you are talking about the same course as me i.e. off piste and if you are, like any off piste course a reasonable amount of fitness is essential to get the best out of it.

richjp, I have been working on my fitness for a while now, and know it will be a test but am looking forward to it Cool
One question I have is , what is the best ski for the course , all mountain ski, or a more off piste biased ski ??
Guess I'll see you Sunday snowHead

I have Rossignol B83s at present which are reckoned to be 60/40 off piste/on piste, so an all mountain ski really with an off piste biase.

I recall two people in my group had wider more off piste oriented skis last year and they probably had an advantage when wanting to go a bit faster.

Obviously conditions make a difference. Last year we had some fresh stuff which kept us going for a few days, but also some chopped up stuff and did a few couloirs and gullies. I would say the safest bet is an all mountain ski.

See you Sunday.
