Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Down Jackets...are they any good?

Thinking about buying a new jacket, I only ski for one week per year, so can't justify spending a fortune on a jacket, but also don't want to buy a cheap one that isn't up to the job

Had a nightmare last year with a billabong one that ended up wet and cold on the inside, not very nice tbh.

Are any of the down jackets any good?

Seen a few from TNF and others for around £150.00 and under and like the look of them

They're good for very cold conditions - in normal temperatures you'd roast. If you only ski one week a year you'd be better with a shell and lots of layers.

yeah head to your nearest tkmaxx, or look at something like a TNf triclima jacket then you'll get a shell and a zip in /out thermal jacket of fleece

down jackets are the business when you're standing in the mountains doing demos or riding in temps colder than -10.

Unfitness Freak,

Size Large only though, so it would depend on your needs.

Don't just take my word for it, read the reviews on the jacket - down and primaloft in one weatherproof shell.

I love my down jacket, but don't ever envisage wearing it for skiing (maybe of it's -30 + windchill or something). It's a Mountain Equipment one, top notch gear at pretty reasonable prices.

I've got a nice Rab jacket, but only wear it for going out at night when it's very cold. Way to hot to ski in but handy to have in pack in case of benightment on off piste days.
