Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Parallel Slalom.....should it be included for WC points?

Just watched the Munich WC SL and whilst it is exciting and fresh to see a new dimension being bought into racing, I really do not believe it should count towards WCpoints. What do you guys think? Its a great PR exercise and the prize money is more than welcome for the racers, but to get 15 points "just for going to the start" when the Cristal Globe can be won by a mere point seems somehow wrong, to me anyway. Puzzled

kooky, tend to agree - I'd like to see it as part of the end of season jamboree where only the top skiers make it, after all the Crystal Globes have been awarded. No wild cards, just the best skiers from the season plus the Juniors as now.

Great spectator sport as the North -Americans proved in the 70s/80s when they had the professional circuit running. They led the way to the building of additional jumps to make the WC more "interesting" for the spectators - not sure Danny Albrecht would agree though.

I think there is a place for them but where and when and exactly how it fits into the already busy schedule, I'm not sure. In a way it does give the pure slalom specialists a better chance of picking up points, as currently I think there are only 9 events for them.

This one was deffo just to boost the chances of Munich's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics though - to counter the negative press caused by that cranky old farmer whose land borders the end of the Kandahar piste in Garmisch. Ude said that there is a resolution of that matter just around the corner. I wonder if the old farmer knows that? rolling eyes

I thought it was excellent entertainment, and if you need to spice things up and make those push that little bit more then I guess putting points on the line will do that?

sorry is only in German, basically says what a success the event was, and FIS may plan up to 3 city events with the possible venues, London, New York and Berlin!

Although I am not in agreement with it counting towards WCpoints, it seems a positive move to bring the sport into the eye of the general public and maybe generate funding.

Great event, but not for WC points IMO. Why not have a separate "City Slalom" competition? Easy to televise and attract sponsors, so big prize money and maybe raise the profile of skiing a bit. Would love to see one in London, but the logistics of getting the event arranged would make that impossible?

rob@rar, why would London be a problem - I heard this place has excellent skiing! Wink

MoodyFFS, Laughing

The slope in Munich looked steep, and long enough to run a slalom on. Obviously it was cold enough to maintain the snow. Anywhere in London able to offer that?

Hmmm. Didn't she get knocked out second round? Laughing

I really enjoyed it but maybe it isn't fair giving world cup points. But if they must, why not have women and men's races on separate days, so twice as many skiers could compete. I can't see London pulling it off. Munich has a natural hill and it was snowing some of the time too. It looked lovely. London would be all drizzle and scaffolding.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Nothing natural about that hill maggi - it was made up from the rubble cleared out of the city centre after the war time bombing. The symbolism being that they buried the memories of the past under the peace of the Olympics.

The cynic in me says they were looking to make the Olympia Park landscape more interesting because otherwise it would be as flat as a pancake. All done for the 1972 Olympics - ironic when you think about what happened there and its aftermath.

Some interesting video interviews and clips posted by FIS on You Tube about the concept. I can't see London being able to reliably do this but the means are there for building a scaffold slope and then pouring snow and ice on it I suppose - be a bit of a slushfest though, just like the British Champs in Meribel Toofy Grin

maggi, she did, but to be fair i saw her comment BEFORE she lost out Laughing

Samerberg Sue, they built and kept cold a massive kicker for some festival at Battersea last year - I think this is a whole different scale for sure!

I guess if you want to attract all the top skiers, then the best way is to offer points.

They held a similar event in Moscow last year and that course was basically built of scaffolding in the middle of Red Square, so no reason it couldn't be held in London or New York.

kooky, I'd have thought that for the likes of Raich, Miller, Cuche that the points would be more attractive than the money. As mentioned earlier, it could make all the difference at the end of the season.

Only the top 15 are allowed to race, but no one can force them to, therefore they still have to see the attraction of it.

It was a great event. The fact that it kept snowing added to the atmosphere too. Made me laugh seeing the skiers getting ferried back up to the start in that car !
