Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski & Board Security

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all... having lost my much loved snowboard to some thieving b@st@%!$ last year (3 boards and 1 set of skis in total nicked from the hotel) I really want to make sure it doesn't happen again. With this in mind I have bought a decent lock but I can only put it though my bindings, something that can be removed by undoing four screws!

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of using chemical etching kits to permanently mark your precious stuff.... Or any better ideas would be gratefully received.

Of course I have thought of attaching my board to a hungry rottweiler when not in use but there may be a few practicality issues with this!

Thanks Smile

orangekss, I have used a hobby type engraving tool (vibrating) to engrave name and phone numbers on the top sheet of our snowboards. Would stop them being sold on I would think.

I made sure not to penetrate through the top sheet. Probably had 20 weeks use since and no problems due to the engraving.

+1; Good plan

A chiuaua might be practical though. Takes up less room in in your pack, eats less, and franky, alot more scarey Twisted Evil

You'll need to Register first of course.

Seriously, nobody is going to remove your bindings to steal your skis. Way too many other easy targets as alternatives, just having a lock is enough visual deterrent for them to move on.

my old Volkls had a rail mount binding - removal involved pulling one pin and sliding binding off. THe pin is removed by push, turn with any screwdriver/multitool/swissarmyknife.
It would leave the binding hanging though if on a cable lock. If using one of the locking racks, no problem getting ski and bindings.

I locked my skis in the racks at the bottom of one of Zermatt's lifts once - in the morning the key didnt work, so I popped into the ski servoice place, chap said 'ok, it happens, and released my ski wiuth a master key no questions asked!
