Off to the Three valleys on Saturday on the tunnel, taking the usual route down. Can anyone report on the condition of the roads from Calais, Reims, Dijon,Lyon and then up to Moutiers? Is there still snow on the roads? Am hearing conflicting reports.

Shouldn't be any concern right now, at least not down near 3V. Can't speak for further up but wasn't any problems last week and not aware of any big dumps of snow since then. The road into VT yesterday was clear and would think you'd get up on ordinary UK tyres. Presume you will have chains in the car just in case?
No snow currently forecast after today in VT for a few days.

Approach roads to the resorts are clear at the moment.

The most local roads here are still completely white and not super-negotiable, even with snow tyres. Needing a light foot on the throttle. It's snowing, but not coming to anything at all - just a nuisance mucking up the vis.

Just got to la plagne. The roads to the resort were ok and do able without chains (got winter tyres though). However the run down was tricky especially around riems. There was lots of snow today and settling on the motorway in parts. Seen more ploughs here today than in the last few years in the uk.From Dijon to resort all ok. Snow melting around Lyon as well.

Going to 3V's on Sat too, and from looking at the conditions it doesn't look like it should be too bad for the journey too.

last jan was quite poor driving conditions but even though lots of the autoroute was covered in slush/snow traffic kept going... lorries were kicked off by the gendarmes....
so expect you will be able to keep a decent average speed up....helps the roads will be quiet on new years day

We are off early via the tunnel too on Sat , same route as the OP. Where please is the cheapest to fill up with diesel - is it worth going off the autoroute or not ?

alltnaha, I fill up at an E.Leclerc supermarket in Reims. Turn off at J16 on the A26 and you will see it on your left.

astroarcadia, Yes, the roads look good for saturday, http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/dynamic/france,,,, but anyway, I will recomended to have winter tyres. It will make a big different, I use winter tyres all winter, and many times I see tourists without standing and try to put the chains on when I easy countinue to drive. I can promsise, it not easy all the time, so if U never have use the chains, put them on in your garage, so you will know how it works, that will help U alot on a cold mountain road , Nice skiing, and take care on the road

it's warm and dry, and going to continue to be so until well after the weekend, so driving conditions should be easier than they've been for a while - down this end, anyway. Pistes bearing up well, except some of the steeper south facing ones which always suffer once it's warm and sunny.
