Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere already but a quick search of the forum has shown that there seems to be quite a lot of knowledge on La Grave around here so hopefully someone might be able to help me...... scgb are running a holiday in La Grave starting April 9 (they call it a safari) which looks like it might be good fun and I was just wondering what the conditions might be like around that time? Also, does anybody have any advice on the best way to get there from grenoble?
Ta!

no guarantees but april is usually a pretty good time to go there. it is mostly north facing so doesn't get as effected as it might by the sun. it does have huge vertical so you could find yourself skiing pretty much every type of snow in one run but that's all part of the charm
there are busses from grenoble train station or you can get a taxi up there which might not be too bad if you get a few people to share

Bus from the airport (bensbus) to the barrage, taxi up from there.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've heard 9 April is going to be crusty mank so don't bother.
In seriousness April is usually pretty good at La Grave I believe - the Derby is usually held around the first weekend in April IIRC.

nige,
I notice that the guide for the trip is Jean-Yves Hubaud, whom I have skied with a number of times now, on off piste trips however rather than safaris.
He is a great bloke to ski with and is someone who clearly loves what he does. He is also an excellent photographer and he usually takes lots of pics, which he makes available to his clients at the end of the week, so you should get some good souvenirs of the trip.
If you google his name you should find his website with lots of examples.

Cool, thanks very much folks. Looks like there's a few travel options to think about and your helpful comments have reinforced my first thoughts.
Cheers!

Been quite often late March first week April - quite often rain in the village and powder up top - chances of skiing all the way down are slim, and down to P1 will be ice in the morning and slush / crud noon onwards. This year in the area we had a lot of wet weather but good snow up top - but was very mild at times.
That said re reading this years blog from April 1st contradicts the above, plus day before was also a brilliant!
"Superb day too knackered to do much of a blog, but one of the best La Grave days - powder was just awsome. Did two classic routes, one which has only been recently discoverd and involved the gnarliest of run outs, crossing a river!"
You mention the trip is a Safari so that could well mean you will travel to find the best conditions, which we've often done and is always very good, and maybe you might end up doing some touring, so enjoy.
