Am heading to St Anton late January for a short weekend and wanted to know if anyone has any tips on cheap accomodation but in a decent location in StAnton?
Many Thanks!

Garretk, if you are going for a long weekend your best bet may well be to wait until a week out as you may find it tricky to get a place earlier (most people will be reluctant to forego the chance of a week long booking until the last minute).

Garretk, I have been looking for the same... and put simply it doesn't seem to be out there... I have found some short stay stuff, but not cheap... or even anything close!

By and large up until a week or two out if you are looking for a booking which is not a week long, you will either not get a reply or be told that they are fully booked. This is not the case. It is just that they are holding on for someone who will take a week long reservation. Speak to the tourist office a week or two out (or even a day or two out if it is not a busy week).

I'll see if I can dig out where I stayed t'row. It was a b/b style place just off the main strip and very reasonable costs. We found it through a website that advertised all the b/b type accommodation in St A. Miss that place!

Just need to check my work in-box t'row. Got me thinking now about all my trips there now! Been 5 times and still love it. Mates 30th, dressed as superman being lifted into the air and surfing the crowd up and down the Moosewirt. Ah and the off-piste at the back of Rendl! Right i'M logging off as up in 6 hrs!

Garretk, MoodyFFS, I'm looking for the same but on sound advice am keeping my powder dry until the week before. As everyone rightly says, they all hold out for weekly bookings and will take shorter ones as a last resort. Can't wait to get there....

I'd say the above was true, I managed to get a room for a few days through http://www.albusski.com/ this January, but only booked a few days before I arrived.

only trouble with waiting til the last minute is that you'll pay £££ for the flight

Garretk, try getting in touch with sidneyreilly http://www.st-antonamarlberg.co.uk/ His appartments are in excellent locations. Otherwise as the others have said, very very few places will take anything other that Sat to Sat this far in advance.

I've booked one of Sidney's apartments and as far as I could tell they are only available on a weekly basis but drop him a pm.

As everyone else has said it is pretty hard to book ahead for a weekend in St Anton. Accomodation owners hate to have bookings less than a week, and if the weekends covers 2 "normal" weeks then it's even worse. I have managed it in the past by booking at the last minute via the official website. As far as I can remember you can search for what you want (apartment, hotel, B&B etc) and their site will send out a mail on your behalf to everyone who isn't already fully booked. In the end I got a really nice room at Haus Gamberg, which I highly recommend. There's no harm in trying now but I suspect you'll get very few responses.
The search page is here: http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/en/winter/unterkuenfte/accommodation-search.html
Haus Gamberg: http://test.arlberg.info/haus-gamberg/index.php?lang=en - Brigitte is really friendly and helpful, she managed to fit me in even though it meant moving rooms for my last night (in the end another booking was delayed by a day so I didn't need to move rooms)
An alternative is to stay out of town, you will find it easier to book a place in St Jacob or Pettneu. It's not so convenient but there are regular buses so it's not the end of the world.

Garretk, I have been to St A in January for a weekend for the last 5 years or so. You won't have a problem finding accomodation the week before you go. I can recommend Chalet Angel, right next to Nasserein lift and still only a short walk to the centre of town. You can contact them via www.angelchalet.com

I tried to book mid January accomodation a couple of years ago, I got no responses when I tried in December, I tried again the week before and got sorted. BUt yes, you can always get lucky, and it is well worth trying now but I wouldn't sweat it if you come up with nothing, you can always try again later.

red 27, get you! I have pre-flight hotel, flight and hire car sorted. Would normally have bed and kit sorted by now too except it's nigh impossible for St A, although you obviously know a flexible friend of a Pension Frau..??
Hope they've reserved a table with a nice view for you...
Don't forget you'll need a lift pass.... Obviously you haven't read the threads on preparing a list properly....

I went through my e-mails at work yesterday and all my St Anton trip info has been deleted. Annoyed as I was having a conversation with someone else yesterday who's in exactly the same situation. Sure something will come up, good luck

I know Jennewein stocks Ortovox kit, and I'd imagine the others do to.
The Rosanna is right in the middle of town on the pedestrianised area, hotels not too far away include the Alte Post and the Rundeck. Not sure about parking tho.

We always stay out of town in a place called Gand where there are a few cheap B&B's and apartments, the area is 10 minutes on the free bus from St Anton but it is the first bus stop so you always get a seat and half a dozen bus stops later the bus is full and going straight past people waiting. The accomm there is cheaper as it is out of town and there is never a problem getting a weekend in that area. Also you get a ticket to leave your skis and boots in the shop at the bottom of the Galzig lift so no lugging gear about on the bus.

It'll take 2 1/2 hours give or take, the last bit is very nice in daylight if you go over the pass, otherwise take the tunnel and pay the toll. Obviously if the pass is closed you have to take the tunnel anyway.
Or, why not take the train or a bus? Unless you need a car (normally not neccessary in St Anton) the train is much easier and bus transfers with Arlberg Express are cheaper than car hire.

sah, thanks for that, would do train or bus , but flight times dont allow it , and as am arriving zurich after 8 pm guess its best to take the tunnel

Make sure to buy a Vignette at the border (or fuel station on way up to Arlberg).....................car tax for your stay, only 8 EUR for 10 days, but expensive fine if you get caught.

Make sure you know where you're going! We were driven to Anton from Les Arcs just over a month ago for pre season training and just assumed the drivers knew where we were going. Just after Zurich during a comfort break they turned round and asked us if anybody knew the way! Turns out the company hadn't given them either a map or directions and the phones only worked in France! We ended up taking a bit of a detour through Bregenz and round that way purely because we were going by me recognising place names from having taken the train to/from Anton last season.
The tunnel's long and monotonous so if the weather allows I'd take the pass, brings you in to Anton nearer the Rosanna.
And echo the vignette (tho I don't think we actually had one!).

Thanks for all the advice, very helpful, got a place sorted, cheers.
All I need to figure out now are the transfers. We get in at 8pm and the train goes at 8.40 I think so looking at a taxi or renting a car but cost for either looks like about e700 return (flying out from Munich).
Has anyone any ideas on getting a cheaper transfer as bus + train options seem to be out given the times our flights get in.
Thanks

Cool, you could try Arlberg Express. You won't make one of their scheduled connections but they can give you a price for a taxi.

Garretk, i had same problem from zurich, but car rental for six days was only £209 , therefore the cheapest and best option all round, see what ebookers has to offer

Got a place sorted but it was tougher than I'd hoped. Been trying on and off all week and they all claimed to be full. Not sure if this is the case or they still don't want to sacrifice Sat & Sun night of next week's Sat-Sat booking.
Ended up back at Gaestehaus Rita where I've stayed before. It's perfectly fine just a bit further out (Timmlerweg) than ideal. Anyway, with a roof over our heads sorted we can concentrate fully on looking forward to the skiing and drinking...!!
Gatwick, here we come tomorrow.....!
