Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

VAT and/or Custom Duty on equipment bought in EU and shipped to UK

 Poster: A snowHead

Looking to buy a ski, binding & boot package online from Sport Conrad in Germany in the next couple of days.

Price includes VAT.

Their FAQ is a little ambiguous:

Quote:

VAT will automatically deducted from invoices for customers living outside the E.U. (e.g. Norway, U.S.A., Switzerland, Canada, etc.). Please note that national taxes, as well as possible customs charges, will be applied by your local customs authorities.

Does the bolded part apply to non-EU countries only or EU countries as well?

Will I be charged Customs Duty for delivery to the UK?

Anyone used these guys?

Many thanks in advance.

Mike

Mike Pow, From the EU you pay no extra taxes. I've not used Sports Conrad but have used other german sellers and what you see is what you pay.

Mike Pow, You will pay the VAT in the scource country. Because you are importing from an EU country there will be no customs clearance proceedures or any duty or VAT to pay.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You'll need to Register first of course.

And if you are VAT registered and buying from another EU country for business the VAT can be deducted at source - at the time of buying!....

You try explaining that one to English companies and shops!

Mike Pow, since you have a friend in CH ... If you are going skiing there again this winter it might be worth picking them up from hers. If you do that you get the VAT knocked off in Germany (subtract 16.4%) then you pay VAT in CH when they clear customs (add 7.6%) and you don't have to pay ski carriage on the plane to take them there.

Mike Pow, no charges as above. I have bought 3 pairs of skis from them. Brilliant service and very good parcel tracking.
