Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grenoble to Les Coches

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello - just booked flights to Grenoble and an apartment in Les Coches but struggling to find any transfers under about 400Euros! Has anybody traveled from Grenoble-Montchavin/Les Coches before? We're on a budget (of course) and would like a bus/coach or something but can only find extremely expensive taxis...
Thanks.

What time does your flight land in grenoble Elp? If its during the day by all means give french public transport a bash. We took the bus/train/taxi option to get to Puy st Vincent last year. I think we landed about 4pm, got the airport bus to Grenoble train station and made the train i'd booked us on. After around a couple of hours on the train we stopped.... didnt move again for a couple of hours. Eventually we arrived in Gap where we were supposed to change trains for the last leg of our journey only to find our train had ben cancelled! with no replacement bus. So there we were stuck in Gap at midnight, freezing, no taxis in sight. We checked in to a hotel and completed our journey the next day losing a days skiing Sad the way back to Grenoble was almost as bad, train moving for half an hour, stopping for an hour with no explanation as to what was going on. Thankfully tho we had planned to spend the day in Grenoble so we just made our flight home. Iv heard similar horror french railway stories from friends. maybee try the bus?!

Thanks everyone. I think we have come to the conclusion that it may be easier to just hire a car! We can probably do this for around £200 for the week and it seems like it's worth it to save using trains and buses and probably end up spending at least £100 anyway. At least that way we can stock up on cheap wine and food at an out of town hypermarket on the way Very Happy

We'd charge 300 Euros each way for such a transfer (happy to stop at supermarket for clients to stock up on way!). For smaller groups it can be cheaper to hire a car but you do need to be careful of extras - ski racks, winter tyres, snow chains......local taxes sometimes payable....and there is of course your petrol and tolls on top of actual hire costs. Make sure you try and get the total of hire costs before booking as know many people that booked a car from UK, only to get here and be charged so much per day for snow tyres, extra for insurance, taxes etc....And check there is somewhere you can safely park for the week as many people don't think of this and parking can be pretty tight in some resorts.
