Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mittersill

Has anyone stayed in Mittersill before? We've just booked to go there for the February half term (found a relatively cheap deal for that week) and the lift pass gives you access to the Kitzbühel ski area so I know the skiing will be good.

However, does anyone know anything about the town? From what I've read it is just a quiet little Austrian village. But surely there must be something?

I spent a week in Mittersill over New Year 2 years ago and had a great time. A 5 minute ski bus journey takes you to the Panoramabahn which takes you up to slopes at Pass Thurn. From here you have access to the whole Kitzbuhel ski domain - we found the local slopes to be less busy than the Kitzbuhel slopes but also really enjoyed skiing over to the local Kitzbuhel slopes (takes a good couple of hours) and back again in a day.

If you're expecting St. Anton style Apres ski in Mittersill you will be disappointed, but its definitely a nice place to have a few drinks in the evening. The centre has a few nice restaurants and bars where the beer prices are very wallet friendly Toofy Grin The hotel I was staying at (Hirschenwirt) also had an outside apres ski bar for everyone which was busyish after a days skiing. There's an indoor swimming pool too if that's your thing...

Leeds_Skier, stayed there a few times over the years. Last time at the Braurup Hotel... Can't beat a hotel with it's own brewery eh? Sadly the nightlife is beyond non-existent, I have been to more enjoyable wakes. That said, the lift at Hollersbach is near and I doubt you'll ever queue. In my view the skiing up at Pass Thurn (where the lift dumps you) is the best in the area and has best conditions. Don't underestimate how long it takes to ski to Kitz and back, you might end up getting a cab back. Start early and no prob.

Cheers guys, to be honest I have visited the town for a day (a few years ago on a school trip) but I can't really remember much about it, aside from it being fairly quiet. And from the reviews I have seen on the web I didn't really expect to see much apres.

Obviously we wanted a more lively resort but the prices that were coming up were stupid. As long as there is a place to get a drink after skiing and a few different places to eat our evening meals it should be enough Very Happy .
