Poster: A snowHead

Guys, wondering if you have any links to a good source for apartment rentals/hotels? Not really fussed which country, I'm not really after catered chalet and I don't want to muck about with a TO. I remember going to Val Thorens a few years ago with some apartment letting company but have no idea what they are called?

www.holiday-rentals.co.uk
www.abritel.com
www.homelidays.co.uk
www.ownersdirect.co.uk
then you have the companies that run some of the residences which owners have their own apartments in like lagrange, europevacances/madamevacances, pv-holidays. You can even start at expedia.co.uk specifying the resort and dates, some of the results can be very interesting!
a layer lower and you can just search by rental agencies in or around specific resorts or areas....
In my experience, its been very rare to actually book via a tour operator once you've done it yourself once and you get a real feel for what you can buy yourself versus the brochure prices. Having said that a couple of good speacialist companies can also give some great pricing - peakretreats springs to mind if you like to get away from the mainstream.
hope that helps,
David

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There are also links from resort websites - sometimes including privately owned apartments. Or just google it - you'll get loads.

skinutter, That's the sort if thing I was after cheers.
pam w, I've no particular resort in mind so google/resort sites aren't much use to be honest. Googling more often than not ends up with TO links anyway.
It's a last minute jobby and we're driving so this is the way to go!

You'll need to Register first of course.

skinutter, As I said though, without a resort in mind it's nigh on impossible to get a result.
Kudos on actually managing to get a result with Yahoo! Though...

anotherproblem, www.tiscover.com - search by country/region and you'll get a list of bookable stuff. Works in the Lederhosen countries very well.

No it's not - just put "rent ski apartment" into google. Though that's a very peculiar way of going about finding a ski (or any other kind of) holiday.
If you have no idea where you want to go, what criteria ARE important to you?
Just for a change, try putting "appartement ski" into google.fr If you want less than a couple of million results, add something else. Such as
how many personnes.

Hells Bells, 2nd Jan is the plan, bit last minute for that date but oh well
pam w, I'm quite aware of how Google works, however that's not what I wanted. I wanted a specific type of site. Google is not it, it's much easier to browse a site with lists and summaries than keep opening pages off google because the description doesn't give much info. It's not the easy way to do it

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

anotherproblem, what "specific type of site" do you want? What are you trying to find out? If you don't know what resort you want to go, you must
need to filter your results in some other way. If you could be a bit clearer about what you're after, we could probably help.
If you can't explain it to several human brains who are trying to help, you probably can't explain it to a computer either.

pam w, The ones skinutter listed were fine. I want to browse through a site with places to rent etc. Which you can't do on a search engine.
To summarise, google isn't what I want. I know how to use it - I'm not a pensioner - but it's a lot more mucking about than I need. I wouldn't have asked on here if google was what I wanted.

You know it makes sense.

I was only suggesting google to find additional sites, similar to the ones skinutter suggested. For example, google "ski apartments Austria" and you will come up with this one
http://www.sunnyrentals.com/ski-holidays?cid=231
where's the "mucking about" in that? Takes seconds.
