Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Verbier help needed

Ok, thanks to business in Geneva I can get 2 days skiing in before flying back early Monday! Verbier conditions look excellent at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a hotel in the centre of Verbier? I have never been. Also does anyone know if you have to buy your train tickets ahead or can you buy them on the day? Thanks. snowHead

Unfortunately, Verbier is notoriously short of hotels and full of private chalets so you may be lucky to get a 2-day booking. Chamonix would be a better bet for a quick stay, especially if off-piste is the goal. The scheduled bus should get you there is about an hour

Tickets can be bought in advance or on the day but it will cost you the same, unless you have a half fare card or similar the price will be about £50 and you will need to make several changes the last onto a bus, best option is to ask at Geneva Station

The tourist office at http://www.verbier.ch/flash/en/index.cfm can do hotel bookings for you, I know I stayed in verbier once but can't rember where sorry

Have fun

DG Orf is right on about the trains.

Getting a hotel at weekends is tricky. Outside those times (and February and the big competitions) you shouldn't have a problem. There are thousands of hotel beds.

If you are only there for a limited time I would recommend somewhere central. Off the top of my head, you might want to look at the Hotel de Verbier (3*), the Garbo (2/3* ??), the Rhodania (free entry through the back door to the Farm Club Wink 3* I think ) or the Rosalp (pricey 5* with grub rated 3* in the Michelin Guide).

There are also Private chalet operators who will sell beds by the night. Check google.

I stayed in the 3* Hotel Chamois in January which was fairly dull but adequete. Hotel Farinet looked more lively with a 20/30something crowd and has good apres ski live music. Both of these are 3-4 mins walk to the main lift.

Beverley, no need for a bus if you arrive when the lifts are open 0800 to 1900 you can get a bubble straight up from Le chable to Verbier centre.

From Geneva you will need to change at Martigny, which only involves walking under a platform to a litttle side platform where you will see the grand st bernard express, a rather sweet red and white train with pictures of big dogs on the side and that will take you to le chable.

If you arrive at le chable outside lift times the post bus will be there and will take about 25 mins to get to verbier (bubble about 8 mins). In addition to the places listed above there's the hotel bristol and verbier lodge. Chalet adrien is very pricey. If really pushed there are a number of hotels in Le chable, but that would limit your apres significantly.
