Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Scotland - next weekend?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I've got a long weekend next week, and with all the snow that's fallen this week (and what is due). I thought it might be possible to get a couple of days in next weekend in Scotland.

But, having never skied in Scotland before - I don't know were would be best:
a) To get to; Most accessible roads etc.
b) Will have decent coverage of snow etc.

I'd appreciate any ideas or thoughts. Cheers Smile

Scottland,

a)easiest for access are probably Nevis and Glencoe because the access roads are a lot lower and the West coast hasn't had as much snow. Nevis is looking to open but not heard anything about Glencoe
b)best cover just now looks like Cairngorm

I'd leave it open potentially taking in a couple of the ski centres.

There have been recent threads about this. Look on winterhighlands for when lifts are open and also some stuff about accommodation, I notice. I can't comment on Aviemore B&Bs, I only know the West side

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Scottland, cbowls30, we're heading for Cairngorm as the snow is supposed to be fantastic over there. The snow looked like it was going to stop now in time for sunshine at the weekend. We are going to stay in Aviemore - at Cairngorm Lodge (if you use the search function for Aviemore in the Resorts Review section you will see my thread for finding accommodation).

I have stayed at all these places and would do so again (depending on what offers they have and how flush I'm feeling)

If you're not in II's price league wink try http://www.laterooms.com/ - we've stayed in Newtonmore (sleepy little village 15 mins drive from Aviemore, 30 mins from the slopes) loads of times. Double rooms can be had at cheap and cheerful hotels including breakfast for £44 (Highlander) or £49 (Balavil). Also, book via Quidco and you get 5% cashback, which is better than nothing.

We've also stayed a few times at Vermont House B&B in Aviemore - warm, clean, nice breakfast and pleasant owners. £54 for a double last May. http://www.vermontguesthouse.co.uk/index.html

Aviemore's somewhat more lively (pubs until the early hours Very Happy ) on the apres ski front than Newtonmore, or other surrounding villages. Fair selection of restaurants too. It's about 8 miles drive to Cairngorm Mountain from Aviemore.

On the skiing front, the whole of Cairngorm Mountain is skiable at present. Although uplift is limited, you can still ski top to bottom using the lifts that are scheduled this week. I was there last last Saturday & the snow was epic - waist deep powder in places. They've been stormbound since due to loads more snow - http://www.winterhighland.info/general/ - website (fantastic source of Scotland info) is saying that conditions will be off the scale once the weather clears Very Happy .
