Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How is it today? We're thinking of driving round to Le Chable in a quest for some height (and decent snow). At what point does the slush stop?

Weather :-
Rained last night upto 2300m. Still very warm +6.C @ 16h45 @ 1750m. Some broken cloud, almost blue sky
Piste:- Still good, but rain & warm weather aren't helping especially lower down
Off Piste :- Av Hazard 2 (but I'd put it borderline 3 in places)
Above 2300m off piste excellant. Latest 10cm put down with wind, so some slab (take care). Generaly things seem very well bonded but who knows what is going on with hoar at the bottom ...

BobinCH, Powder Extreme tweeted at 1700 GMT "Rock Garden was the place to be today if you could handle the hike; beautiful, untouched powder. It's going to be a sunny weekend in Verbier."

Weather :-
Blue sky sunshine day, very warm
Piste :- Still good
Off Piste :- Av Hazard 3
Above 2300m, and not S facing, fabulous conditions. Still fresh tracks to be had. Below 2300m rain & temp have made snow very heavy. At altitude, S facing slopes have an evil sun crust (Mont Gele to La Chaux was virtualy unskiable this morning), but at altitude in the shade it is fabulous. There has been, and continues to be, considerable wind transport of the fresh snow, so you need to keep your eyes open for slab, watch those lee slopes ! There is still space on Gele, and on both Stairways, but it is forecast to be a blue sky weekend so it will get tracked quick.

Weather :-
Blue sky, unbelievably warm, +19 in the shade at lunchtime !
Piste :- Good but deteriorating
Off Piste :-
Av Hazard - not sure, I would say 3
Very very windy last night, huge ammount of wind transport, watch those lee slopes !!
Still good skiing to be had at altitude, but a wind crust virtualy everywhere.
Highway to Heaven was good, but scary at top with extensive wind slab
Skinned to Glacier des Etagnes, beautiful, virtualy untracked, although with wind crust
Don't go off the back of MF after lunchtime, exit very exposed to sun warmed slopes above, big terrain trap.

Weather :- Blue sky, very very hot, like March or April
Piste :- Good but deteriorating

Still good at altitude, but you have to go further afield for fresh tracks. Glacier de Petit Mont Fort was fabulous today.

Weather :- Blocking high so unchanged, blue sky, ridiculously warm
Piste :- Good to OK, deteriorating
Off Piste :- Av Hazard 2
After a blue sky weekend, standard lift served routes are now pistes. Even further afield things are deteriorating as soft snow settles and thickens, and the temperature takes it's toll. Even N facing shoulder, permanently in the shade, route of Mont Gele wasn't that good today. All Heaven variants are pistes, although nice snow. Need fresh.

Weather :- some high level cloud, warm, but not as silly as it has been
Piste :- Good to Ok, better at altitude, bit hard
Off Piste :- Av Hazard 2
Bit grim. Front of Mont Gele & couloir directly under Chassoure gondola were good though, nice & grippy.

Hi, its 19th January 2011- any new updates on the state of the snow? Im going to La Tzoumaz/Verbier 22nd to 29th Jan. Ive heard it best to 'download' on certain sections especially back down to La Tzoumaz because of lack of snow/icyness. Although there is meant to be a couple of cm's snow on the day we arrive. Everyone cross their fingers!!

No real change, slightly cooler, forecast to get very cold.
It was forecast to snow a bit, but the snowfall has vanished from the forecast as the approaching frontal system has weakened.

Haven't been over to La Tzoumaz yet, but downloading may be the more pleasant option. The last road section of the piste is unpleasant at the best of times.

Pistes are hard and fast, particularly lower. No real bare patches though. Snow making working hard on the bits that go bare early.

At altitude (2,300 plus) on north and east facing aspects there is still some nice chalky, grippy stuff to be found off piste.

Hint of a chance of some fresh on Wednesday.

Very cold, little wind, stunning visibility. Smiles all round. Smile

Alan McGregor, I wish!!! Cloudy this morning, maybe a flake up top. Pistes are good, but the off isn't great, managed to find some firm untracked on the face above the Vallon d'Arby traverse. Front face on Mt Gele down into Lacs des Vaux, firm and interesting.

Doesn't look like we're due anything for another week. Crying or Very sad

Hint of something on the horizon for Saturday night/ Sunday morning. Managed to find a few turns in untracked fluffy on the ridge above the La Chaux express yesterday, so it's still out there if you look hard enough. Rock garden was lovely yesterday.

Popped over to Verbier for the day to see relatives and the skiing was really good especially higher up.
Pistes around Verbier were all in good condition and you could see they had been working hard with the grooming and cannons.
Stuck mainly to the piste as had the kids with us but all had a really excellent day.
Only bit of fun was teasing the others as we had left Morzine where we'd had a tiny bit of snow overnight!!

Got the 4V Wednesday evening. Cannot believe how good conditions are. On piste excellent. Miles better than new year. Very quiet and great fun. Staying in Les Masses, they have dramatically improved the piste back to the village. Heading to Nendaz today.

Fifespud, Great news - I'm out with my 6 year old this weekend and was hoping that the blues/reds around Nendaz/Siviez are not too packed and icy... I noticed from the website they have closed Prarion though?

Gary. Priarion closed today. I assume lack of snow. Got to the top of plan de fou and the run back down to Siviez was excellent. A bit more icy today. Get your edges sharpened!

1556garyt, I was at Priarion on Thursday having skied hidden valley and it was very thin down there.

Epic hikes now required for powder, did wings of Icharus and nursery slope yesterday, still some nice stuff around, but it's getting quite compacted. No snow on the horizon next week. I think it's going to be skins and a good book!

Weather unchanged, blue sky & cold, no snow forecast.
Pistes generaly in good condition, Nendaz Siviez link closed due to lack of snow (Prairon & Les Fontaines)
You need to work a bit for good off-piste, skins required. Gorgeous spring sugar snow below Glacier des Etagnes.

Situation normal - beautiful clear skies, a little warmer today, no snow in the forecast.

Would love to say that we found knee deep powder after we hiked for three hours towards Fionnay, but actually we had a lovely lunch at Chez Dany wink

No change, although slightly warmer.
BobinCH post shows there is still fun to be had, but you need to walk, and I have never seen Rosablanche so tracked.
Did standard couloir #2 of back of MF today, intimidating bumps to get in, then nice but scary firm hard snow. Rest of way down was fairly rubbish, you need to go further afield, but there is spring sugar snow to be had.

Skied over Veysonnaz, Thyon & Les Collons from Siviez today and the pistes are in excellent condition considering the temperatures and lack of snow.
Pistes ae very quiet and no queues
Marginally cooler today although it didn't feel like it in the sunshine lunchtime. If it does cool down a bit as is forecast then next week will be fine and hopefully half term will be as well.

Seems to be a lot of doom and gloom around here bit at least in Verbier they've managed to keep the pistes in great shape. Not a bare patch on Combatzeline or even the run down into Medran. And new snow forecast Happy
