Val Thorens is open!
In the morning sunshine and in the afternoon more clouds. Temperature just below zero.
A lot of wind. Open pistes are in good condition. Sometimes hard snow where the wind has blown away the snow.
Waiting time for the Funitel Peclet between 5 and 10 minutes.

I popped up to Les Menuires today to have a look between appointments in Moutiers. (OK, I left a puncture to get fixed and had an hour or so to kill (They didn't fix it! Bugher! Hire Car! Double Bugher(Anyone know a decent tyre fiiter open 'a dimanche' in Savioe))). I digress. The snow seemed pitifully thin (15cm). There was the odd ski track about where the brave had ventured but it did seem to be a thin new coating over a hard base, in the hard base = granite Scottish Stylee. There was, however, SOME snow down to St Martin de Belleville. Wouldn't want to ski it on MY skis though.
As an aside, I also popped up to Valmorel. Got a way to go as you might expect but given the height diff to Les Men, surprisingly good. I didn't get there until after dark (blame the tyre non fitter) but there was evidence of some brave fools having donned somebody elses skirting boards in lieu of skis and plenty of kids using toboggans.
Phew! Busy Day. But the location is not meant as a flip remark.

A beautiful sunny day. Same snow/piste conditions as yesterday. Funitel Grand Fond was open, so some relief for the Funitel Peclet.

The crowd, that made Val Thorens look like at peak season, has left.
Some snowfall and a lot of mist during the whole day.

Again a day with mist and light snow. The temperature is going down. The snow is of a kind that sticks very easily.
The trees changed into nice sculptures.

A beautiful,but cold day with a lot of sunshine. Some clouds and light snow in the afternoon.
At 3000 m it was -12 degrees. Hardly no people on the pistes and a lot of virgin powderfields.

123_456, some great images in amongst that lot. real crackers. for some reason, i really like this one, even though there are more attractive shots in the set.
any chance of you getting over to courchevel, especially around the Pralong piste so as i can show my wife where she'll be advancing her skiing skills on our trip?

If the snowconditions further improve the liaison with Méribel and Courchevel will opened during the weekend of 4/5 December.
Your wife can look at pictures of Courchevel if you go to Flickr and do a tag search with C8 XX or C8 XXX.

Alternating wind, fog and snowfall. During a short time, around midnight, the temperature at 2000 meter dropped to - 15 degrees.
The road to Val Thorens and Les Menuires is partly covered with snow. Chains, wintertyres and 4x4 drive is necessary.

Some sunny spells, hardly no wind and -6 degrees.
First opening of the lifts Moutiere, Cairn, Caron. You can start and end skiing now at parking P4.
Pretty snow and piste conditions.

Less cold then yesterday. Nearly the whole day the sky was covered. Only between 12.30 and 13.30 some minor sunny spells.
During the the afternoon light snowfall started again.
A good day for shopping in Moutiers.

During the whole day light snowfall. Hardly no sight due to the fog and snow.
Total snowfall about 15 cm and that is nothing in comparision with Chambery with 60 cm.

Sunny day with only a few small high clouds.
Temperature was most of the day just below -10 degrees.
The fresh powdersnow of yesterday made the piste very soft.
Still hardly nobody on the pistes.
This seems to change in the coming days. Everywhere you can see the preparations for the coming season.
The 3-Valleys laisions will be opened for the first time on Saturday.
Tomorrow will be a very cold day with temperatures down to -22 degrees at 3000 m.

Only early in the morning some sunshine. The rest of the day the sky was totally covered. Light snowfall and temperatures between -10 and - 12 degrees.
It was the last day you have to go by car to Val Thorens. Tomorrow the lift 3 Marches 1,2 and Bruyeres 1,2 in Les Menuires wil be opened.
Skiing can start now from our backyard until the end of April 2011.

It was still cold but it was very bright sunny weather. A complete blue sky without any clouds. This was the last cold day and the next 3 days will be much warmer. Fingers crossed that the LNP will not rise above 2000 meter.
Today skiers and boarders everywhere, but not crowded anywhere. Sometimes on the lower pistes the snow is hardpacked. In general the pistes in Meribel and Courchevel are good for so early in the season.

This day was completely opposite with yesterday.
During the night the temperature rose from -10 to -2 degrees.
Low hanging clouds, light snow and sometimes hail and a temperature just below zero.
Above 2500 meters very strong south/west wind. It was even possible to ski uphill.

Good morning 123 456. Thanks for all the photos. What is it like at the moment, I am out on Sunday and a bit worried about what the rain is doing to the snow? Hope it is not to bad there, I see people are skiing up at VT.

At the moment light rainfall at 2000 m. Not good for the snowconditions. New snow and much colder after wednesday.
Until Sunday is 6 days so a lot can happen.
