Poster: A snowHead

Im teaching a course in Pau In december and have managed to delay my return flight to alow me to venture out for a little slide on the Pyrenees.
Does anyone have any reccomendations for a good day. I could either simply travel from my hotel based in pau or could stay overnight closer to the slopes?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Close, you have Cauteret or Luz-Ardiden, or even Gourette (closer but smaller).
If you're prepared to travel east a bit you have Piau-Engaly.
There might be a few just the other side of the spanish border as well, but I don't really know them.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'd recommend Cauterets. I used to live in Tarbes (a few miles from Pau) and we went to Cauterets more often than anywhere else.
Quite small, but really nice terrain - great, consistent gradient.

Hello Freddie Paellahead, sorry been away wiping bottoms rather alot. The ski touring trip wasn't that scary - we have a new little daughter who just won't stay in the cuppoard when we want to chat or go skiing... But she is a year old on the 19th and big enough now to be wrapped up and brought out onto the pistes in the baby carrier so skiing might be back on the cards! Only managed a few outings last year (We did actually take here up carefully wrapped last season at about 3 months on touring skis to avoid the lift nazis - she loved it!).

18 years ago I used to live in Pau, working @ Turbomeca. It's a massive place, looked like Butlins in the mornng with bus loads of staff being brought in from miles around. Havng so many employees, they had loads of clubs including a ski club, and as a foreign placement student they gave me skis and boots and told me where to get the bus each saturday morning at 7.30am: for 100 francs, I'd get taken to the slopes, get a lift pass and get freeinstruction from the club instructors.
Every friday I went out and got hammered and never did get to go skiing
FOOL that I was.
