Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mountain equipment changabang jacket (2010)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone!

I'm looking to purchase a shell for skiing in Jan & Feb next year. I quite like the look of the mountain equipment changabang, the newer 2010 version. Can anyone tell me how the cut of this jacket is? I seem to remember trying a 2009 style jacket on which seemed a little short in the body but long in the sleeves.

I've always liked TNF stuff but not been so impressed with the quality of their gear although i've not had the higher end kit like free thinker etc so thinking of trying one of the other mountaineering brands.

It's meant to be fairly short so it doesn't intefere with a harness. The arms should be long so as not to restrict movement.

I've got one and like it, although I now ski in a longer snowboard jacket for added overlap.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

hugh_b, I've got one from a couple of years ago. I love the shorter fit for climbing and the zip out snowskirt makes it a bit warmer when needed. Plenty of freedom of movement in the arms.

I bought one at the end of the season last year so not used it on the slopes yet but I find the fit is great - reasonably close fitting but doesn't restrict movement at all. The sleeves are quite long but then so are my arms. I just hope it lasts as long as my 25 yo ultrafleece jacket Very Happy

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

hugh_b, I spent a long time researching jackets (my old Berghaus was over 18 yrs old) and found that the Chang ticked every box. I love it

Another +1 for the Changabang. It's also got a really well cut hood. It packs up really small as well.

(Also you get a built in whistle with it,which is a nice touch)

Thanks chaps. I received my new changabang thismorning from webtogs, big thumbs up for them Very Happy

Couldn't of asked for a nicer jacket, although the cut is a little shorter as most of the mountaineering jackets seem to be it shouldn't be a problem as it doesn't ride up when i lift my arms into the air etc. All seems very well thought out and very well made.

Can't wait to try it out! Very Happy
