tips versus instruction is a whole nother topic 
when skiing it is useful at times to have a single thought that is action related (get up, get forward, pole plant, edge etc... )
tips arent magic bullets and dont really work well to change or improve technique, they can help to reinforce a new movement or technique after the skier understands what you are on about. just proffering a tip doesnt help change muscle memory IMO
fatbob, i have not seen you ski alpine but your balance tends to be aft, if someone (or a little voice in your head) just tells you to "get forward" has that made any real lasting difference to your skiing?
Tips can do more harm than good. The amount of people who tell me that their expert mate gave them a top tip like "lean forward" "in powder lean back" "moguls are easy all you gotta do is..." etc

Seriously though - yep backseat is my natural tendency so encouraging myself foward regularly does help whether that's with the hands or other "tip" type mantras. I'm not sure I'd ever have the patience to drill myself out of it totally so mantras work as a sticking plaster.
