Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Edge + Base Angles

Hi All,

I have a pair of Rossignol R9X TI Oversize's and have always had them tuned by a shop, now im starting to tune my own ski's is there anyway I can check exactly what angle the base/edge are set too before I start? Obviously the manufacturer data would be a start but id like to double check incase the shop have tuned them differently.

Thanks.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Jamesc, you can use any angles you like, you don't have to stick with the manufacturers.

Hi Marc,

I appreciate that but obvioulsly if they are set differently to the angles Im going to use its going to take alot more work etc, But yes I guess I could just reset the angles how I want them.

Thanksstevehaskew,

Mark the edges with a felt tip pen. Make a few light passes with your file at say, the normal angle, then trial and error, you will be able to tell right away from looking where the pen mark has been removed what angle they have been set to. Be careful with the base angle as without a base grind you can not flatten the angle, only keep it the same or make it sharper. Changing the side angle is possible by hand but is a bit of work. Hope that makes sense. I am sure this must be in jons stuff, and better explained.

Jamesc, If you have a couple of grades of metal files as well as diamonds then changing the side angles is pretty easy. I had a soft pair of skis that I changed to a three degree and it didn't half sharpen the turns up on hard pack.
