Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know anywhere where kids ski clothing can be rented, whether in the London/Kent or Lake Geneva areas?
My 10 year old nephew wants to come out this winter for a weekend for an introduction to skiing, but in case he doesn't like it it's a lot of expense for a weekend to buy the stuff for him.

NickyJ,
I kitted out my 3 from a mix of costco and skiwear4less.com. I bought a mix of Dare2Be and Tresspass. I think it worked out about £60 each and the stuff will be on ebay when they grow out of it.

I have some kids ski stuff for sale - will post in the appropriate place if anyone is interested.
Under 10 stuff mainly - MoonBoots, All-in-One suits, used but actually grown out of so in good condition.

TK Maxx, hit and miss what they have when you go in but some good bargains to be had.
Skiwearforless a really good company to deal with and good bargains in store if you are passing one.
Aldi and Lidl, sign up for their specials email as both run some great deals in ski wear for all sizes of people, in my experience only Decathlon comes close on price but generally the Aldi/Lidl stuff seems way better for the money.

all the above great suggestions.
however you do it there is quite a lot to get; as well as ski suit (fart bags live) socks, gloves, googles, thermals- this can easily add up to over £100
Would add;
1. Borrow - by far the cheapest- especially wrt all the extras if you live in the alps I just can't see how this isn't the simplest option!
2. freecycle
3. ebay you have the time
4. discount specialist outdoor shops eg Mountainlife in Keswick (they have a web site) they are great value- eg a microfleece for £6.99 also ski and surf or is it surf and ski in Brighton- they also have a small web site but are not internet retailers. They sell Icepeak (Finnish) one piece suits at a very reasonable price. the staff are super friendly and when I rang to order one it arrived the next working day. We have had a series of these for our boys and they are excellent value if not exactly fashionable. Decathlon- but we don't live near one.
5. Aldi/Lidl have good value helmets, socks, gloves etc but very hit and miss if you will find what you want when you want it- a lot of this stuff ends up on ebay at 4 times the retail price.
6. Other discount stores- TK Max.
We have used all these options to equip 3 boys for skiing at a reasonable price. Very very occasionally they get some posh socks/thermals, googles from the likes of Snow and Rock or Ellis Brighams (only polite given that EBs granddaughter delivered our eldest child). Obviously we are total hypocrites in this regard. Frankly Mrs Ed and I would not be seen dead in the stuff we send our kids skiing in....neither of us have bought any Patagonia underpants (yet) but pretty much everything else we ski in is super delux (although in my case quite old/faded/tattered). FFS I have just bought an Icebreaker t-shirt- in a sale for nearly £30!!! and I moan about the gas bill.
However- for a weekend- BORROW!

As mentioned above, ebay is great both for buying and selling, there is a thriving market in kids skiwear for obvious reasons. I generally recoup about a third of original price.

Sounds like you are unlucky! 3 pairs of kids boots and 2 sets of skis sold on ebay late in the ski season last winter all sold for more than I'd paid for them early in the season (inc one pair of boots that went for more secondhand than I'd paid new) not sure about how clothing prices are, my lot have generally worn stuff out before they grow out of it, but the odd occasions I've looked it seems Tacky Maxx/Aldi/Lidl are better value than ebay.
Oh and another to add to the bargain ski kit list http://www.mandmdirect.com haven't got much in yet but as the season wears on big name kit will appear at very low prices, and a good company to deal with, no hassle returning stuff etc.
