Hi guys, new to the forum! I'm 6" 5' and weigh around 85kgs or 13 stone.
I'm planning on spending a ski season in Val Thorens this coming winter and am looking to buy some ski's before I go.
I've had 6 holiday weeks previously and can handle a black run although i'm more into having fun on easy reds riding switch and popping little jumps around the piste.
I think with this style of skiing i'd need some twin-tips?! but thats as far as my knowledge goes? Also what sort of length would I need for that kind of ski and can any1 suggest a good brand etc??
Sorry about all the questions and thanks for taking the time to read this!
Rob

At that height, probably the longest ski in which ever model you chose. But there's a billion park skis out there, you won't have trouble finding some to demo in resort so I wouldn't bother buying until you've tried some and found out which ones you like.
And eclectic, technically it would be [/thread]

Don't bother waiting with the Euro etc and there are so many decent skis you wont be disappointed! Support the UK and save a couple of quid!
You should consider what you will be doing once you step up a level and the friends you meet? Is it worth getting something a little fatter so you can ski everywhere?
I think so if you are only choosing one ski! So many good ones!
Length is your choice, but just below head height may feel a little long at first, but after the first 3 weeks you will be glad you didn't go shorter! I am 5'8''and Ski 178 for the park and 182 and 183 for backcountry.
Some of the Aramda skis are good, Scott I love, K2 are good as are Salomon, Atomic etc etc! I wouldn't buy a pair of line atm as I drilled a pair end of last season and I can't say I was 100% impressed with the core quality!

Thought Line are the same as K2? And Salomon aren't exaclt renowned for their quality either.
Dynastar have a pretty extensive range fo twins these days, and they really are bomber on the quality/construction front.

Good advice...remember, twins ski short so I also second that you will probably get the longest size- I am close to your size and have 186 cm Fischer Misfits that did the trick the second half of my season in Les Arcs.

get someone like Jons ski tuning to fit inserts in your ski and let you have both a tradition mount and a central mount position on the same ski
|
kevindonkleywood, top bit of advice this, I'ld only thought of using inserts so 1no binding could easily service several skis in a quiver. The idea of making the binding position adjustable on one ski hadn't occurred to me, but it sounds like a winner.

The ski can't tell how tall you are. It only knows how much pressure is being applied to it.

You're right some of the K2 skis are similar in production as line, but not all.
Since Salomon were bought by Amer sports their quality has improved no end and it is like a different brand to 3+ years ago!
Some Dynastar's are great, some are not, depends how much you pay. Not all are made in the Dynastar factory. Same with most brands.

Why not buy the Marker Schizo binding? I have them on mt P3's and they are great. Forward for Park, back for skiing with the Mrs or bored of the park!

True, but at that height I doubt he's going to be really light. And I anyway I specifically remember my skis asking me how tall i was when i bought them.
Also short skis are gay.

'Short skis are gay' Probably the best quote I have seen on Snowheads so far.
Not too mention, so so so so true. I become very angry, I wish i could explian why, when I see blades and almost furious when I see blades AND poles!!!
Brilliant!
