Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I didn't mean Slovakia as a whole but as a ski destination! Does the lack of response mean no then?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hard to say about the snow. It is very early.

Never been there but I would consider going to Jasna.

It looks quite modern and big enough.

Not entirely sure, but Jasna opened fully on the 19th December last year http://www.jasna.sk/news/past-seasons-news/winter-2009-2010/en/winter/ . Some High Tatra resorts plan to open by the 12th. We found Jasna a good resort in 2008 and there have been a few improvements, including more artificial snow-making since then.

Resort looks grand for the 3 or 4 day break. I thought their season might start around the end of November giving a good chance of snow for mid-December - not so sure tho.

Often the snow base does not really become skiable until mid jan, but I think they have some cannon coverage now....

I was across there late November 2008 and they started to open the slopes in the High Tatras (I went to Strbske Pleso).

I got the impression that they were opening slopes as and when there was enough snow coverage but I may be wrong.

Jasna does seem to be the best place to go as in the High Tatras the resorts aren't linked up and there are often only a few runs in each place.

It's a pity that Sky Europe have gone bust as they used to run regular flights into Poprad (the gateway to the Tatra mountains), so I guess you will need to fly to Bratislava and get a train.

The skiing in Slovakia obviously isn't as good as the big Alpine resorts but I really like the country and it's a refreshing change. My Slovakian mate found me a ski instructor for £15 for 2 hours who couldn't speak much English. His only words to me were "Philip NO", or "NO Philip".

I'd say go for it - just as long as you don't expect a big massive resort.

Jasna opens on 4th Dec and they Guarantee 5 months of snow coverage. Not exactly sure what that means but i know they have invested in new lifts and snow cannons this summer.
