3snowboards, I like the plates! When I get my summer car on the road (hopefully next year although I'm still holding out for November) can we do a snowheads drive around the lake? I have a '76 MG Midget.
I'm hoping for lots of snow in December, with bluebird days around Christmas, and especially Christmas Eve! Knowing my luck Christmas Eve will be a dumping storm and the Squaw cable car will be closed.

Northstar reported 30 inches of new snow this morning (sat 11/20) on their delayed opening day, while Heavenly has reported 12-18 on theirs.
Not alot of terrain at either of those resorts (one run at heave confirmed).
Squaw opened today with limited terrain and 12-18 inches new.
Kirkwood reports 20-24 but they arent open yet.
I saw some pictures from there today and 20-24 is an understatement.
Snowing here at the house tonight as the second wave comes inland off the pacific.

Interesting post fron National Weather Service
16 DEC 10 400PM PST
For period friday-sunday
WITH SNOW LEVELS A BIT LOWER THAN WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT...AND
THE CHANCES OF HAVING HIGH SNOW LEVELS ABOVE 8000 FEET IN THE
RENO-TAHOE AREA BEING MUCH LESS NOW...THIS EVENT WILL HAVE LESS OF
AN EFFECT ON ANY MAINSTEM RIVER PROBLEMS AND SHIFT THE FOCUS MORE TO
THE TONS OF HEAVY WET SNOW IN THE SIERRA. THE POTENTIAL STILL EXISTS
FOR SOME URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING IN WESTERN NV...BUT SHOULD
REMAIN FAIRLY MINOR COMPARED TO WHAT WE COULD HAVE SEEN WITH HIGHER
SNOW LEVELS.
SHIFTING TO THE HEAVY WET SNOW POTENTIAL IN THE SIERRA. WITH THE
HUGE AMOUNTS OF PRECIPITATION WE ARE EXPECTING IN THE SIERRA...WE
COULD SEE UP TO 3 TO 6 FEET IN THE SIERRA AROUND TAHOE ABOVE 7000
FEET...WITH 4 TO 8 FEET IN THE SIERRA OF MONO COUNTY ABOVE 7500
FEET.

Let me explain it to the euro types:
1-2 metres so far and the major stuff isn't suppose to hit till tonight.
Hope it lightens up weather wise so some lifts open tommorow.

Sunny and cold has invaded,
with the region having received
> 200% of average snowfall (for period thru DEC 31).
Kirkwood has a 4-5m base while further south,
Mammoth is reporting a 5-7m base mid-mountain.

Our january drought is possibly ending with 2-3 feet falling since last night (and still falling) around Tahoe >north.
Another storm on slate to hit Tahoe>south over the weekend with several more feet expected.
Hope to ride in the morrow.

Some north tahoe resorts (sugarbowl for one)
are reporting 3 day totals of 7+ feet as the main energy is beginning to slide south.
Southern sierra snow totals should balance out with what has fallen north.

Tahoe is being nuked - 50 inches out of the storm at Kweed to date
Winterhighland, When are you out - skiing Kirkweed? Fingers crossed the drought is well & truly broken for my trip in a few weeks. Ski nanny I'll also be skiing Squaw so would be a pleasure to buy you that drink and maybe take a run or 2.

Squaw Valley reporting 8 feet of fresh snow, 14 feet of fresh at Homewood. It now has a base of 5.8 metres. I wish I could be back there instead of stuck here in the Australian summer!!!

Flying out on the 10th March, staying in San Francisco overnight before heading to Tahoe on the Friday - travelling by amtrak (train to Sacramento, coach to South Lake). Not got set plans where to ski or when, weather will influence that probably, but definitely plan to hit Kirkwood and Squaw.
Advance apologies to any commuters I decapitate with my skis on the BART!

THE VERY COLD AND UNSTABLE SYSTEM OFF THE OREGON COAST WITH THE JET
PUSHING INTO THE SIERRA IS A PATTERN KNOWN TO PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT
SNOW EVENTS. SINCE THE SYSTEM IS TRYING TO WORK ITS WAY OUT OF A
BLOCKING PATTERN...IT IS VERY HARD TO DISMISS THE SLOWER SOLUTIONS
OF THE HEAVIEST SNOW MOVING THROUGH THE REGION FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
FOR NOW HAVE FOCUSED THE HIGHEST POPS FOR RENO-CARSON-TAHOE-MONO TO
THE FRIDAY PERIOD...DUE TO THE BEST MODEL AGREEMENT.
LIQUID AMOUNTS HAVE BEEN STEADY IN THE MODELS...EVEN WITH
DIFFERENCES IN HOW MUCH MOISTURE IS PULLED INTO THE WEST COAST FROM
THE SYSTEM NEAR 40N 160W. ON AVERAGE THE MODELS ARE PLACING 1-1.5
INCHES OF LIQUID FOR THE SIERRA AND 0.25-0.50 INCHES FOR WESTERN
NEVADA. MAX VALUES ARE NEAR 2 INCHES IN THE SIERRA AND AROUND 0.75
FOR WESTERN NEVADA. DUE TO THE COLD ORIGIN OF THE SYSTEM...SNOW
RATIOS OF 20-1 ARE LIKELY IN THE SIERRA...WITH 12-17 TO 1 FOR
WESTERN NEVADA.
the hills are primed for this 5%
the wind was blowing a bit so i couldnt get a shot without flakes in it...apologies
