Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

meribel - anyone know Les Allues

looking at a Gap course based in Les Allues, so would be there most of season. Ive never been to 3 valleys, but a quick look at the maps suggests Les Allues would be a pain in the behind with a gondola to even get to Meribel to then take another gondola to get up the slopes. Looks like it would take ages - anyone been?

It's not the best, about 20-30mins on 2 gondolas to first slide, but if you're based there for the season then you might be able to drive/get lifts up to Chaudanne. To be honest it's downloading on the last lift when there isn't enough snow cover you'll need to watch out for, may put a crimp in your apres. Having said all that, I know a couple of people who've seasoned at Les Allues and loved it, none of these issues are insurmountable.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

bitoffluff, Les Allues is a pretty village, with several shops and bars. The gondola ride to Méribel is more like 10-12 mins (the total journey for the 3 stages from Brides to Méribel is 22 mins), but many lifties and instructors hitch rides up, and there is plenty of traffic passing through. I drive though myself on the way to Méribel, and will always stop to pick up instructors/lifties if I have room. There is also a regular bus to Méribel. Don't rely on skiing back to Les Allues though - even last season, with pretty good snow conditions, it was rarely possible to ski back.

Free bus runs fairly regularly between Meribel and Les Allues so not a big problem getting back and forth.
