Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpe d'Huez - where to stay, help!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Folks,

For this year's boys weekend (four poss five of us) we have decided that Alpe D'Huez is for us. Never been before and unsure of setup here so can anyone help with suggestions on where to stay?

Mid January so not peak season. 3 nights (thurs/fri/sat). Late dep Sun.

We'd like:
Stay in the village (1860?), apartment, single beds.
Cheap hotel (B&B)
Cheap chalet (B&B).
Plan to eat out, so only need breakfast in the apt / hotel.

Quality not that important - we can slum it with the best. Clean / warm / dry are the basic requirements.
Short walk to slopes.
We're all pretty mean so value is a priority.

Some conflicts / contradictions here I know, and I suspect there will be a compromise or two along the way...

Thanks in advance.

Oh - that looks just like the hotel we stayed in AdH! But it wasn't called that and it was a family-run French hotel. Do you know if it changed ownership since about 2003 and what it's previous name was Lizzard?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

ADH is gash.

Worst major resort in the Alps.

Unattractive and soulless.

Rebook and go to Deux Alpes.

If you board I'd consider LDA myself, skiing ADH is great!
ADH does have some amazing terrain, it's just getting to it. That hotel is 2mins from the piste, however it takes 45mins-1hr to get to the highest piste (longer iin Feb)! Night life is epic, if pricey!

cathy, different place - that's been the Chamois for years and was a TO property (Neilson?) until a few years ago.
